With the b whelp of the neighbors, went through the better part of a 2010 WLW and a Lot B while holding the trick-or-treaters at bay. Both hit the spot on a chilly fall evening.

Bullet 90 proof before dinner, Dickel 8 with the lime pie for desert and uncut Blanton’s as a nightcap. The Dickel was ok but a bit light for the dessert. 12 would have been perfect, but I am completely drained out of it.

WL Weller Centennial, yes of course neat.

That one brings back sweet, sweet memories of coming in second (out of three) in a Euchre tournement and having some damn good chicken Saturday night.

As for me, I'm celebrating doing my civic duty with a few oz. of 2006 OFBB.

We did have a lot of good pours during our board meeting for BBB last night. It was leftovers from our latest event plus some bottle that our host Bernt shared. We had all antic collection 2009 except Handy plus 2 different batches of VWFRR and an older Sazerac 18. Bernt didn’t know that the 2001 Sazerac was a real rarity and it did taste a lot better than the 2009 despite being open for a very long time and almost empty.

Sipping on some Weller 12 (Newer style bottle). This was my first taste of Weller 12.I thought it was ok.But it did not blow me away.It was ok up front but it did not have much of a finish. For my palate I like OWA 107 a lot more.Hopefully this was just an off bottle. The OWA just had a lot more flavor and a bigger finish.

I will try this several more times.Just to make sure my palate is not just off.

I started some years ago with a mingling of all ND OGD (6 or 7, all made in the 70's or up to '87). Some SB-ers tasted this at Randy's, and I believe Doug Philips still has some. Later, I added some 1960's Beam bourbon to it (from a decanter - one of the French Impressionist series) and some 1968 IW Harper Bonded. Today I added some ND OT - from two bottles, one very butterscotch-like, the other a little tamer and possibly a transition bottling. I am very happy with this fruity, complex blend. Not just the taste, but the texture and finish where I seek a soft and supple effect. It is interesting to note the discussion of mingling on another thread. I agree that it's not hard to do, but small differences in what you use can add or subtract various nuances. But, certainly for home purposes, you can never go wrong. It will rarely taste bad and if it does it will make an excellent whiskey cocktail or whiskey and Coke. (Or just keeping adding more bourbon until it tastes right). Almost everything I drink now is mingled, I just prefer my own efforts to many of the brands out there. I will have to get more creative though since my stocks of ND and other older bourbons are almost gone - and they contribute heft, fruitiness and richness to these blends. The one mentioned in this note is a valentine to the pre-1980's style of American bourbon-making and I will keep it as it is.

I have no Harper bonded or 60's Beam to include but I am enjoying a 50/50 mix of ND OGD (1982) and ND OT(1980) both 86 proof. I ran it through my wine aerator too. Great nose and I'd say the sum is greater than its parts. I like how the rye/darker fruits of the OGD balances that sweet/butterscotch of the OT.

Earlier some NAS OWA. Now, I'm up again and can't sleep so its ice tea and onion crackers and braunschweiger. I suppose I'd better brush my teeth again before going back to bed.:skep:

2 of those Larue's are for our Ohio Brothers, they got zero in the Buckeye state.

I'll open a Stagg for Thanksgiving and a Larue for Christmas.

I have a cold in my nose, but I did have Rittenhouse BIB and OGD 114 anyway tonight. 114 did go thru much better.

WT 101, and then some Knob Creek. I had both neat and found the Beam product to be lacking. That was a bit of a surprise for me.

WTKS 2005 before dinner and WT 101 1981 and OGD 114 after. The old-time turkey tasted better than the newer one tonight.
