Came in from blowing snow, showered and found supper ready.

I'm enjoying pan fried pork chops and a fat snifter of Dickel 12.....Yum....

The wife and I have been fighting a nasty "bug" since about midway through our trip home and today was the first day we felt good.

We live in the country and got 6+" of snow yesterday, so I fired up the new wood insert (with glass panels) and spent quality time together. So it seemed like a good situation to try the Evan Williams 200 Birthday Decanter ('83).

OMG!!! Smooth is an overused description for bourbon but is the first thing that comes to mind, no sharp bite, no burn just caramel, some sweet corn and a bit of spice on the finish with a lingering finish. Glad I grabbed the second decanter.

I'm enjoying the last bit of a sample of 86 proof Daviess County bourbon I received from another SB member. It's quite tasty. Oh, and the nose is full of butterscotch. Is there a reason that current production bourbons have (to my nose and palate) almost no butterscotch?

Finishing up the evening with a light pour of McScrooge's Blanton's.

Weller Antique 7/107 while watching the Biggest Loser. I think the tranformation these people go through is amazing, I just can't stand all the bull :shithappens: over the two hours. I haven't seen that many people cry since Marshawn Lynch's run against the Saints...which I guess wasn't that long ago....

But the bourbon was good as usual.

Being a newbie, I asked for recommendation of where to start and was told by another member of SB to try Old Charter, WT Rye and a Weller to learn the difference in corn, rye and wheat bourbons. That said, I opened a bottle of Old Charter 8yr last night {No 10 yr to be found}, I am by no means a connoisseur, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable bourbon for me at a bargain price.

I did have OFBB 2010 before dinner yesterday. I’m not that impressed yet as it seemed a bit restrained so far, but I hope it will open up soon. The small pours of WT 8 export and Wt 8 from 91 that I had after lunch tasted much better. Not to talk about the Stagg 09 that I had as a nightcap.

Four Roses LE Jim Rutledge 40th, neat.

Dang, O. Where do ya get those FR special releases? The guy at my Four Roses store (only 1 within an hour and half drive) couldn't even get the SmB Christmas gift pack. (He rec'd a nice-sized shipment of the SB gift packs, but the SmB wasn't available in our region according to him. They never have the special releases and it would be a waste of breath to ask.)

Enjoy.

If I told ya then I'd have to kill ya.

But all that aside, this bottle is my least favorite.

I have never tasted wood in 4R's before but this bottle seems to be wood heavy.

It is bottle #210 of 1442 at 104.6prf, yep that is barrel proof.

Willet Pot Still Reserve and now RHF. I really do like the RHF. I noticed the local liquor store lowered the price by $7/bottle! Going to be headed there to replace this bottle when empty. Unfortunately they sort of made up for it by raising the price on one of my favorite beers by $2 a six pack. The Grimbergen will have to just sit there at 13.99. I love it, but not that much.

Barrel location?

I don't know what you mean.

Like I said earlier it was bottle #210 of 1442.

Don't they have all that jazz on the front of the label?

We truly are a drinking team with a bowling problem.

I had my wife pour a bit of whiskey from the cabinet into two empty decanters last night without letting us know what she selected. As discussed in another thread ("I Think I Tasted The Bottle"), it's interesting to taste fine spirits blind without being influenced by price, brand or packaging. It became evident quickly that she chose two high quality ryes, of which I have more than a half dozen now open in the cabinet. We were all in general agreement that the first pour had a richer, more mouth-coating quality and a touch more sweetness. The second had more spice and seemed oakier, but both were great. They turned out to be VWFRR ("I" bottling) and Michter's 10 Year Old Single Barrel Rye. I checked through some old notes pertaining to the latter and in my chicken scratch saw the remark "possibly as old as 18 years" with a big question mark. Does anyone remember anything more about the provenance of this rye whiskey and its age?

Sounds like a good time just the same, Joe. I don't think I've ever come across a bottle of Death's Door Wheat Whiskey. How is it?

If I don't drink better than I bowl I had better give up drinking. :slappin:

Oh yeah right, it was from Warehouse SS Barrel No 15-IC or is that 15-1C?

Reid I saw recently that you got a bottle of the 40th that you weren't so pleased with, is it the same one?

This one was a real letdown.
