AaronWF
Came across a few bottles of Hirsch Selection 20 year old American Whiskey. At $81.99 each I left them all on the shelf.I was offered a bottle of 28 year old Hirsch Selection Bourbon for $300. It had just been returned (I did not know liquor stores take returns...). The clerk tried to sell it based on the fact that Pappy 23 goes for $250, so for only $50 more I was getting another 5 years in wood. I know I tasted some very aged Hirsch Selection bourbon a few years ago that was some of the blandest, most overly-wooded whiskey I've ever had; not sure if it was from this bottling, but I told the clerk that if he was going to drink it he should watch out for splinters on his tongue. Brisko
Nice. Even with the 90 proofers, we could probably make an educated guess based on the known entry proof and the percentage of loss, though I suppose we can't assume that a given rate of loss would equal a constant rise in proof... yet again, more math than I'm willing to attempt. Please correct me if there's something I'm doing incorrectly.2012 Stagg: 14,481 bottles ((118 barrels x 53 gallons)x (1-0.5369 for evaporation loss) x 5 for # of bottles per gallon2012 WLW: 5,634 bottles. 0.566 for evaporation2012 Handy: 8,689 bottles. 0.3023 for evaporation
HighInTheMtns
750 ml is not a fifth of a gallon. It's close, but over that many gallons it makes a difference.

It was difficult enough for me to export the barrel numbers over correctly from the fact sheets . So who's more correct and based on evaporation loss is there much of any bottle difference between 2012 and 2011?

z327
Left 4 bottles of THR in Baltimore on sale for $59 made it hard to do but luggage was near the legal limit. Bought 3 plus a GTS. Shipped the GTS and carried the Rye's in my luggage.
clingman71
Passed up 4R SB '11 LE & 100th, couldn't find SB '12 LE. Passed up 1993 BTEC rediscovered, have yet to see "large barrels". The 1993s are a possibility as I really liked the 1991.

theglobalguy
THH 2012 @$80 and PHC 2012 @$89 at a really small shop. Was frankly stunned they had either. Stopped in on a whim.
portwood
Mastersons 10yo straight rye.No way I'm paying $110 for a bottle that would sell for <$50 if it were packaged where the whisky was distilled and aged - in CANADA.
WAINWRIGHT
I would definitely second this,of the'89,'91 and '93 releases of the BTEC.The '89 being the worst and the '93 being the best.

savagehenry
Not an awful price on the V23.I thought it was reasonable. I will be returning without the wife. I walked out of there with a WTRR 10 from 2006 so I wasn't going to push my luck. The V23 has been sitting there for a few years so I'm going to bet it will be safe until Monday. Tico
Seriously. The guy with the VWFRR & the ORVW 10 said he had just sold a PVW 20 for $600. Only in Del Mar. I'm thinking of going in there with my bottle of PVW 20 or 23 and seeing if he'd trade the VWFRR & ORVW 10 for one of my PVW's.

portwood
I don't get it :confused:Some people come on here and claim to be passing full shelves of BTAC, at the same time, I keep hearing that BTAC bottles are impossible to get - strict allocations, stores get one bottle of each, waiting lists hundreds deep, yada yada yada.At the risk of :deadhorse: can someone help a newb understand the BTAC hype?
