DPPSmoker
Jim Rutledge was at the Blarney last night in Toledo for a signing and tasting. I had never been to one of these before so I rounded up 4 buddies and we made a day trip out of it. Jim spoke for an hour and we really enjoyed his talk. One of my buddies has been home brewing for 20+ years and he was asking Jim one question after another. When he was done talking, Jim signed bottles of the private bottling (OBSV recipe) that the Blarney had recently acquired. All of my buddies purchased a bottle but I got three of them. I'm going to donate one to a local auction and keep the two for myself. Then this morning, my local liquor store called me. I gave him a wish list so he could work with his distributors. He was able to obtain a Stagg for me. I can't wait to crack that one open.
jkater1
Here's what I paid for over the past week2 x PVW20's2 x WLW's2 x GTS2 x VWFRRWent to go pick up my the 2 20 years and 1 rye, store owner had been holding it for me and I paid for it over the phone. When I got there he went to get the box and couldn't find it. He asked an employee where it was and the guy said that the person came in yesterday and got it. I guess the some one came in just said they had some Pappy on hold, and the clerk said oh, you must be the one that paid for it already, went and got the box, gave it to the customer and away he went. Store owner was pissed, asked if he could have a day to go over tapes and try and find the person before he credited my card. Moral of the story don't prepay, I called the credit card company and it shouldn't be a problem getting the funds back, but not looking good at getting any 20 years this year. After this years fiasco with PVW, I'm done chasing it around. So here's what I actually got.2 x GTS2 x WLW1 x VWFRR

atfree
Didn't purchase anything today but on a dusty hunt in western Ky did find this: a complete country ham breakfast for $5.99 in Cadiz, Ky! And it was gooooood!Awesome! I grew up in Cadiz, KY, and essentially all of my family still live there. I grew up eating country ham regularly since my grandfather was one of the prominent producers in the area, back when he was in better health. Here's an article from the Chicago Reader from where they visited my grandfather's farm http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/ham-country/Content?oid=999745, and one from the Serious Eats website http://www.seriouseats.com/2008/03/cadiz-kentucky-doug-freeman-ham-man.html on the lost art of ham curing. What restaurant was this?
