Later in my day today passed on 3 '05 Old Forester Birthday Bourbons, '02 Kentucky Spirit, 3 WT rye 101s and a Canadian Club 30 yr I was almost toyed out of shear What would a 30 yr Canadian Whiskey taste like.. Then I came to my senses

:skep: WTH does that mean, anyway?

HW 21 at $110. cheapest i have seen it in the wild, but have not been wowed enough by their lower end products to want to take the plunge on that one (i know they dont make any of the actual whiskey in the 21)

Pretty sure they don't make any whiskey in that goes into their offerings

The unaged oat and rye whiskey are supposed to be their own make. Don't know that they have released any aged whiskey of their own yet. Or even if they ever will.

EC12BP @ $60 (2 bottles)

AH Hirsch 16 @ $500 (8 bottles)

$60 for EC12BP? Ouch - I thought them Michiganders were getting screwed at $50; no wonder it is still on the shelves.

This particular store has a great selection and decent prices on most stuff. However, they really turn the screws on anything that is hard to get. All of he Van Winkle stuff was about twice the suggested retail.

However, the place where I buy most of my stash does not do that. The EC12BP I bought last week was about $36.

AHH 16 (blue wax) for $970. I would love to get my hands on one of these for my collection but $970 is just outrageous. Even the store owner eluded to it being way over priced so he may just be holding it for street cred.

At least he priced it. A lottery winner could splurge on it. I find the 'Not for Sale' bottles often seen in liquor stores just stupid.

PHC 2011 cognac finished at 79.99 a bottle. Have 2 on the shelf already.

Pick it up for a fellow SB member and work out a trade for something you dont have.

Passed up a JPS18. Interestingly, I recently purchased the last bottle on the shelf from this store. A few days later, and there's another lone bottle up there. Has anyone else seen retailers do this? Seems kinda sneaky to me.

i see a michter's 20yr everyday at my local. not really a pass up because i know i'm not spending $500. and i run into a few woodford reserve master's (sweet mash and seasoned oak) at a decent price but pass on those also.

Passed on the Jefferson 21yo bourbon today. At around $130 I just wasn't interested in risking that much on another woody bourbon, and mystery bourbon at that, for that price. So no companion for the EC20 gathering dust in my liquor cabinet!

Picked up an ECBP instead!

sorry for this being somewhat off topic, but is there a forum dedicated to trades?

PM only for that I believe. Talk of trades or sales are prohibited.

Passed up a whole row (5-6 bottles) of Kentucky Vintage 107 pf, "12 year or older" age statement at $34 + tax.

The hand written part of the label lists the lot #, but not the year bottled. Is there a way to tell when it was barreled or bottled?

Wandered into a store that had 5 Wild Turkey turkey decantors from the early 80's. A couple of 8 years and a couple of Turkey Lores. The owner wanted $50 a piece, but the tax stamps were all broken and the fill seemed light. The heads were a bit wobbled too so I'm assuming most of the corks were broken completely or near broken. No clue if this was a good price as I haven't really done much research but I just couldn't pull the trigger. Left them on the shelf but they were awesome to see in person.

I passed on JPS 21 bourbon today too. I want to taste it first. @135 way too much and when the owner starts gloating about how he should be charging more that is generally when I head for the door.

Damaged goods such as those are worth only the collector value of the bottle.

That's what I thought too Squire. Since I'm not in the decanter collecting market and only the drinking market, it was a pretty easy walk away.

I bought a lot today so my bank account forced me to pass on a lot: PHC 2011, WTAS, tons of WTR 101, J21 (can't say I was really tempted), THH (didn't check the year), OFBB 2010, FRSBLE 2011...and more that I'm not remembering at the moment.

passed on a Seagram's 1776 with a Tiffany decanter for $150. No idea what the age of the whiskey in the bottle is for this one. it might just be regular seagram's in a fancy bottle.
