TVojtko
passed up jefferson 25, whistle pig boss hog, elijah craig 21, parker's pof....all for retail but just too darn expensive! Were these all at the same grocery store where you scored the others? At a grocery store? In a small town? In California? BevMo and the other national retailers out here are extremely hit or miss for this stuff. What store were you in, "Extremely Rare, Hard to Find and Seasonal Release Beverages and More"?I've spoken to a few store employees and they all blame the distributors for the lack of sought after bourbons. If this is true, I can only guess what that sore owner is doing to be in such good favor with the distributor. And whatever it is, he/she must be doing it well enough to short supply the rest of the State. Edited January 8, 2014 by TVojtko
bin31z
I found the Lot B in a small town grocery store. That was an insane find. The other stuff can be found at good local stores, not Bevmo. Bevmo doesn't have jack squat. Beverage warehouse in LA has the rest, I wouldn't really call them hard to find because not that many people looking since you are talking about $150+ for a bottle of bourbon. I've tasted the POH, whistle pig, EC21, Jefferson 25 etc and they are good but not 7-8 times better than a bottle of EWSB, FRSB or EC12. These companies just wanted to all jump on the bourbon bandwagon and make more profit. Bourbon is a working man's drink and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Were these all at the same grocery store where you scored the others? At a grocery store? In a small town? In California? QUOTE]Great score on the Lot B for sure, especially at a grocery store!I refuse to pay the extreme prices that the specialty stores charge for the others. I wandered into a small store that specializes in wine and spirits a few weeks ago and inquired about a few thing and the owner went on rant about having stockpiles of the worst vodka that he's ever tasted and other crappy spirits that he can't even sell that he had to order just for the privilege of getting a few bottles of the seasonal releases last year. Unfortunately, the distributor wouldn't allot him any this year because he hasn't re-ordered more of the crappy stuff.

It hasn't piqued your interest because it is not that good... a cask strength release of a mediocre and gimmicky bourbon doesn't make it any better. upStomp
Just took a trip to Julio's at lunch. They had 6 bottles of Single Oak Project. I loved the bottle I got last season (barrel #74), but not enough to spend another $70/375. I did walk out with some GDR and FRSmB. There just wasn't anything "new" there that really got my attention.
Brisko
Passed on WTRB wt-01-99. Same price as others on the shelf, but had black wrap around the neck (all others had clear neck wrap). Anyone have experience with the older WTRB compared to current offering? I know many others prefer the older WTKS....If you like WT this is a must-buy, in my opinion. Cigar Dan
I'm in south Florida for an annual conference. I always make a point to visit the local Total Wine to peruse their offerings and to pick up an inexpensive bottle of bourbon to sip on in my room. While not a bourbon, this was the first place I have run across the Lot 40. If the price was $40-45 I would have bought a bottle to take home. At $65, it was an easy pass. For such a big store, the variety of bourbons they offer is disappointing. It makes me appreciate what I have available at home.
Red One
All of them. But, specifically the Single Oak Project. I went to a bottle shop today nearby a work meeting I had in town. I was specifically in search of ETL and OWA, which they have plenty of at their other location. Shelves were empty of both so I passed on the Single Oak, too. Probably would have picked one up if the regulars had been on the shelf.
393foureyedfox
most everything. I had some time to kill and went to a couple of places in search of one thing and one thing only, Dickel 9. It took a few stops to find some, as apparently only one of the big box chain stores got enough of the barrel to go around. They had a display case made up for it out of a longitudinally cut barrel with shelves built into it (a nice idea I may have to copy for home), and about a dozen bottles of it left in the display. I had a gift card so I grabbed two.also, out of curiousity, I looked at the HH6BIB on the shelves.....clearly, the 1.75 had no age statement on it whatsoever, and I lloked it over thoroughly. the 750's still say 6 years on the neck. I have a case in storage, so Im not going to stockpile any more......unless becomes official that its a goner.

petrel800
I would be glad to offer my assistance putting together a few sets just In case they sell out quickly. TimThe Bourbon Lover's dream collection is just too much hilarity for me. By my calculation, based on my knowledge of retail prices, it's about $2K worth of stuff. The crazy thing is, the guys running this store aren't bad folks. They've set aside bottles for me, even a few of the ones on these lists. They've got some really decent prices on somethings. I haven't really chatted them up about these deals. Personally, I think this is more about displaying them then selling them. I guess if a sucker comes along then a sucker comes along, but the location of the store really isn't somewhere where a sucker with 14K is going to come along. At the end of the day, it's their stuff, I suppose they can do what they want with it, I'll keep bleeding them dry of Weller 12 at $19 a bottle.
