I had to go to the post office after work today, so I stopped in at a store near there that I don't generally go to very often. I passed on Blanton's @ $70.00, Stagg Jr @ $60.00, ER10 @ $40.00, and OWA @ $40.00. I only stopped there on the remote they might have some Weller 12. I asked the guy at the counter about the Weller 12.  He remembered me and said no Weller 12, yet. Maybe in a couple of weeks. He said they could get OWA, but not Weller SR:huh: He then told me that they might be actually be getting a couple of bottles of Pappy this year because they'd sold a pretty decent amount of other items this year.  Fat chance I'd get a bottle from them. Especially considering their prices.

Passed on a Stagg Jr. 130 proof and just took the two ETL he was holding for me. He said, "That's right, you're looking for the other Stagg..."

Passed on WLW for $500 and Handy for $300

Yikes - WLW's retail is $99.99 and THH is $79.99, if you can find them.   :(

Passed on ETL today for $100.  This store has awesome prices on most of their stock, but, they will mark up the allocated stuff.  Easy pass for me, but, someone will probably buy it.

I was disappointed in my last bottle of ETL

I don't remember it being like this in the past. Must just be a bad batch.

I have noticed this as well with both Elmer, Rock Hill Farms, Eagle Rare, and Blanton's.

Generally all very good, but every once in awhile I'll get a terrible bottle.  In fact the last bottle of blanton's I got tasted so bad (like musty old wet basement) that I quit buying Blanton's unless I can try a sample first.

I suppose that's just part of it with single barrels though.

As time goes on, I noticed I'm enjoying the small batch blends much more for their consist quality.

You nailed it on the single barrel difference. One of the things I love most about whiskey is the barrel to barrel nuance. You can get great ones but also a stinker every now and again. Those who know me know my love and devotion to Rutledge era Four Roses. For quite sometime if you said it could be bad I would've called you a damn liar. However when the GBS picked a couple a few years back one of the selection barrels was just bad. As much as the whiskey was bad I think I found myself learning or at least reinforcing the true breadth of the single barrel nuance. Kinda cool. At least to me.

I concur in your decision, Joe.  Blanton's here (WashDC) can be had for around $50 (or a little less on sale), ER10 has reappeared and been around $30, and OWA, when we see it, is under $30 but goes quickly.  Yeah, they are spotty, but if one is willing to wait or to substitute . . .  In sum, I admire your self-control.  If we live another two years, we may see these prices and shortages ameliorate (fancy words for "come back to normal"), considering how much stuff the Majors have been setting by the last few years, according to DISCUS.

Passed on a handful of stuff earlier in the week. Prices pretty high at this random LS, but near a resort area...

Wanted something high-end...but Blantons for $80, WTRB for $60, OF 1897 BIB for $62...can't remember other prices.

Settled on a 1 lt. OFSig for $30...not so expensive that I care if I'm leaving some of it behind.

I keep passing on Hillrock Solera Bourbon, but something inside keeps tugging on me to pull the trigger.  I don't like the price, but figure I might take a stab on this some time.  It sure looks purdy! :D

Energy single one I saw amazingly enough. I have more will power than i thought. I did escape the store with a Pinot Noir for the wife and a 12 pack of IPA mix from Sam Adams.

I've had that same nag in my gut for years. I've yet to pull the trigger, as sometimes my guts have S#!T for brains...

Me three.  The phrase "old enough to know better" comes to mind.  I keep secretly hoping it'll be gifted to me, but so far it hasn't happened.  I think a bar near me has it.

Passed on FRLESmB2014 at $250. I love the 2015 and was looking for 2016 and would have possibly considered talking to the owner about it for 2016, but I'm relying on the not so great reviews of 2014 at that price. If it was at retail price I'm buying any FRLE I come across. If marked up 150%, I'm less willing to take a chance.

Passed on OWA, EHTSmB, and ETL at a lottery yesterday - could have had chances at them but since I've already got all on a shelf I let others who might not have their chances

Pass on an ETL ($90), ORVW ($300), Blantons ($100), and a RFH ($130).

What really surprised me was that the place with the RFH for $130 had Blantons right next to it on the shelf for $55.  I get that Blantons is more readily available, but for the love of all that's holy . . . if you're going to gouge some schmo for $130 on the RHF, you're leaving money on the table if you don't push that Blantons up to at least $70?!  I almost stopped to tell him he had that priced too cheap, and decided not to bother.

I've had it fellas (a buddy's purchase) and it ain't worth the $$$

Not surprisingly I wasn't so fortunate to try a buddy's purchase and have already stepped in this burning bag when it landed on my door step. I will have to join Richard on this one. A $20 bourbon (if that) in a $60 bottle despite the light touch of sherry finish. It may be a pretty bottle but it ain't $60 pretty! So you are welcome to scratch that particular itch at my expense at the next appropriate opportunity.

Speaking of which....
