OE7 101 simply amazing and not just for the price

A unique tastingbourbon that doesnt get much mention around here. I taste a mix of spice, fruits and a tartness if I remember correctly. I really like it especially on the second pour in for some reason.

Was able to get 2oz of Bookers Rye and 2oz of M10 today for $67 at one of my favorite restaurants.

The only problem I have with it is that it's 90 proof, $50 and I THINK (could be wrong, didn't read the label too closely) NAS. I passed this up earlier in the week in MoCo but may go back for one eventually due to curiousity getting the better of me.

Whoa. That's pricey. I got one here about a year ago for $35. Don't know the age, but it was good. I didn't rush back out to buy one when I finally finished it a month ago or so only because I have some coming in from a barrel pick I did with a group I'm in.

Have you tried their single barrels of WR?

Woodford? They don't do single barrels of WR unless you're referring to the double oak in which it's only the second fill barrel that is the "single". Their typical small batch goes into that second barrel.

Steve,

Montgomery County, Maryland (control county which is a rarity) has 3 different "personal selections" of Woodford Reserve, different profiles (with supplied tasting notes) in 1L bottles.

I bought one for my neighbor because he is a Woodford fan but he hasn't cracked it open yet.

A certain well known store on Route 1 has a private selection of Woodford Reserve as well.  I stopped by there for beer after work today.  Passed on that, but I did find a four pack of Manor Hill Citra Splendor hiding behind some other stuff.  I purchased it for . . . research.  Yes, that's it.  Research.

I just so happened to choose a pour of Old Forester BIB when I got home from work today. So, I guess I'm continuing with OF theme here. :D

Cheers! Joe

Ah yes. Those are not single barrels. The way Woodford does those is they give you 6 or so barrels to taste from and they blend your favorite two or three into your own custom blend. I just did this back in November and we chose a blend of two. The smallest of all batches. They wouldn't let us do a single.

Did they say why they would mix two but not do a single barrel? Sounds like a strange policy

Yes. They don't offer a standard single barrel in their lineup so they want private selections to also be a blend. That said, the selector still has leeway to choose something off profile because those barrels can vary quite a bit.

On this Woodford blend topic, just out of curiosity, does anyone know if they blend in the juice that comes from Louisville in with the site-distilled Woodford juice before or after barreling? I always thought that situation with juice coming from two distilleries was part of the reason the don't label a single barrel product but I don't recall where in the process they blend.....

Having what I think may be a bit of an oddball from SAOS. It's a single barrel (#4144), 11yr cask strength that's only 90.4 proof. I have 8 other sb's from them that range from 103.4 to 122.8 and don't recall ever seeing one under 100 proof (not including their standard offerings).

Anyhow, it's very tasty with cherry and cinnamon flavors fighting it out and a surprisingly long finish. The only negative is that it's a little thinner than I'd like it to be, but not too bad.

And for those who keep track, yes, it was bottled by Sarah

At a restaurant lounge in walking distance, tonight I had a generous shot of  "Van Winkle Private Reserve - 12 year - Lot B".  $25 for 2oz seemed like a decent price.  It was my first sip of a Pappy's related whiskey.  It was very smooth, with no burn, and great aroma without being too oak-rich.  I just checked Internet prices and couldn't believe the listings around $500 for the bottle.  Wow.  It would be good to try a SBS with another wheater, one that I would actually buy.

It's sad that pappy mania has caused these prices. My Local LS tried to sell me a " pappy 10 year" for $600. I laughed when I told her that it A. Wasn't pappy. It was ORVW. and B. It retails around $60-70. Needless to say I walked right out. I guess anything with "van winkle" in the name has turned to pure gold.
What's funny is that they sell some other harder to find stuff at normal prices. The week prior, I bought a bottle of EH Taylor small batch for $40.

After barreling. The pot still bourbon from Woodford in Versailles goes into its own barrels. The column still bourbon from Old Forester in Louisville goes into its own barrels. It gets combined after the barrels are dumped. At a private selection, they tell you which barrels are pot and column distilled along with the ages. Our group tastes blind so we didn't have any of that info until after we selected. We had two pot still barrels and four column still barrels in our lineup. I rated the the two pot still barrels the worst. Most did the same but there were a couple guys who really liked them. Our blend will be from two of the column still barrels.

Last night  opened a bottle of MM CS.  I was not impressed overwhelmed with alcohol on entry and finish with not much mouth feel or taste.  My thoughts well at least I only have 375mL.

This morning the nose in more pleasant, better mouth feel and finish.  Puzzling and interesting.  Perhaps I'm wired to have my bourbon in the early AM.

This is very interesting Flahute, and also pretty funny really. I also have heard in the past that the only products 100% distilled on site are the Master's Collection, which largely underwhelm to say it gently

FWIW Will, I like MMCS. Hey, it's a wheater. What can I say? :P Also and FWIW, I had planned on finally joining you with a pour this morning. Plans change.  I'd barely finished pouring my coffee when I was "informed " of a few things my wife wanted to do today. She's on a mission, and I'm her wingman. <_<

Cheers! Joe

I recently was in a bar in KY and ordered PVW 15 for $25 a pour. Since I've never had any Pappy before I always wonder if its the real since or weather everybody's laughing at me in the back room for paying up for a phony.

After shoveling the driveway - twice... I decided on a pour to ease the muscle aches - open bottle of Blanton's Gold just to my right while sitting at my desk so into the glass it went.

7" to 9" of snow in my immediate area depending on who you listen to - since I was the one shoveling it I'm going with the higher number :)
