The idea is neat, a different label named after a different real horse for each batch. And each batch is proofed differently. At the end of the day though, it's all still mgp in a fancy labeled bottle with a young age statement, if at all. Fine. I get it, and I think it's a neat idea. I also like mgp whiskey. I just don't need any more mgp, as I'll be drinking smooth ambler for the next 20 years...LoL And so, my training begins... You have spoken well, My Master. What you say is right along the lines as what I was told. I was also told that grabbing my first taste of rye, this one was easy enough to drink. That was also true, as I broke it open for a taste. Not bad, but where do I go next? It seems a path, your guidance has chosen...
vismatt
Picked this up for $33.99 and an I.W. Harper 15 year for $65. I have a couple bottles of WSR at home, but couldn't pass up that price for 1.75l bottle. Looking forward to trying the I.W. Harper.
Spade
Grabbed a Four Roses OESQ. This is probably my favorite recipe. This one is is slightly more than 9 years — the last OESQ I purchased was just over 8 years if I remember correctly.

After checking out the "museum exhibits", I chatted with the guys for a bit and tried their store pick of Wathens barrel proof. After some friendly conversation, the guys offered me one and I felt the price was reasonable. Good stuff. Good times. Great day not being @ work ! Is the Wathen's BP better than regular? I've had a regular bottle of Wathen's on the shelf for years now...I found it thoroughly average.
BDanner
Stocked up on a staple today. A 1.75 Handle of EWBIB, currently on sale at NC ABC stores this month for $26.

0895
Today I visited Smooth Ambler (a personal favorite). Got to try their fantastic wheated "mad dog" right off the new still and picked up a 12 year single barrel (mgp sourced). Yes, that really is cask strength @ 95.8 proof! The new wheated mash I believe is going to be a big hit in the future. It tastes a lot different (better?)than the old yearling and batch one of the wheated bourbon. Truly a great group of people who care a lot about what they are doing ! Edited April 19, 2018 by 0895

A lot of these 12yr-ish MGP's that are out there were aged low in the rickhouse which results in these low barrel proofs.
Masset1982
Not purchase today, expect the Owl and the samples which were delivered today. Now, the problem is, sneaking those into my bunker without the wife knowing. Some epic samples right there : Booker’s Rye 2015 GTS PHC 11th Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Some Wine and Cheese store picks, WP, RR Old Scout SiB 11yo low proof. Looking forward to try the Booker’s tonight. Cheers! Will.

Good info. I'd also like to add that they're not very good, and anyone who has some should ship them to flahute and I for disposal...

I was really tired after sitting in VA/DC/MD traffic for 2 hours. I also visited Bowman yesterday. Found their whole operation to be fascinating. Bought a bottle of their gin, made from rye.
