Finished off the OF rye not long ago. I'm a big fan.

Glad you posted this Kepler. It was shopping day today, and of course I stopped by the liquor store. Long story short, because of all the good reviews here, I ended up recommending the OF Rye to a guy that was looking for a good rye. He thanked me, grabbed a bottle and went on his way. As he headed down the aisle, he also put a bottle of BT in his cart. Yeah, we had talked about BT too.  ;)

No, not a River's Casino, those are gone :(. This was a standard release and unfortunately, I don't have any more ?

It was still good. :P

Good recommendation for sure. He will thank you to himself later. It always feels good when you can plant a seed with a willing person that is eager to know more. We were all there ourselves at some point.

Took me 4 years to finish this one. I kept it in the back, away from sight.

Started it with good friend and finished it with him last night. It was a superb bottle to the last drop.

Would get again. IMG_0283.jpg

While working on the Bunker inventory yesterday, I found one of these buried behind a stack of old shootin' shorts and magazine back packs still in it's bubble wrap packing from a trip.  Obviously sent home from Atlanta (DeKalb Bottle House, maybe?) rather than carried in checked luggage.  I'd rather be lucky than good, any day!   ?

One of my very top favorites available on the shelves today.  In fact,  actual availability on the shelves at standard pricing considered, this might be the best tasting thing available right now.

Does anybody out there have a better nominee?

Just killed this liter of contemporary WT101.  I love the 1 liter bottles, they just look "right" sitting on the bar.  I wish I could find a store that had better deals on this size because usually the value is with the 1.75 and the 750 ml.

Oddly enough I agree with this. I guess luckily the only size I find the rye 101 in is liters.

That's true, good point, the 101 rye seems to only be available in 1 liter bottles. Well I can't complain about that.

Just save that bottle and refill it from the 1.75L.

That's what I do, if the handle is significantly cheaper or the only option, as I don't have space for them.

I'll likeky buy another tomorrow.  Since Minnick claimed this can beat/hang with BTAC, these aren't near as deep on shelves. They're actually empty on some. This makes me roll my eyes. Come on, people. You're either a turkey person or you aren't.

Never tried this but I'll look for it. But I think the important part is starting and finishing it with said friend. Cheers to you both, hope the last drop was as good as the first.

My favorite part of WT is the incredible amount of baking spices it has on the nose after a few minutes sitting in the glass.  Reminds me of the smell in the kitchen as the wife bakes oatmeal raisin cookies.  You get it in WT101 but it's amplified in WTRB.  I'm really not sure how any bourbon fan wouldn't appreciate WT.

Well you found one.  I've tried the WT 101 multiple times, each time hoping that I'll change my opinion, but to MY palate it tastes thin and hot.  That's surprising since I like the WTRB, WTKS and pretty much any of the RR bottles.  Sounds like I'm in the minority, but everyone's palate is different.

That's for sure.  As for WT101, just my experience, it needs to sit a while in the glass.  RB is a burst of flavor and aroma right off the bat and I love it for that.  WT101 needs to sit and get rid of that slight ethanol smell.  After 5 min or so of sitting it smells and tastes very very much like RB to me, just thinner and not as punchy, but still very enjoyable.

Oh, I'm not questioning anyone else's enjoyment and love of WT 101.  I wish I did like it better, since I like other WT bottles.  Maybe it's like Cilantro.  Some people love it and to some people it tastes like a bar of soap.  Could be the Umami taste thing.  Kind of like when U mami said "Your going to sit at this table until you finish your dinner", which made everything taste bad. LOL!

Catching up a little here....

I pitched an 'old' Noah's Mill empty a month or so ago.   Sad to see that one go!   ...Wonderfully well-balanced mixture of pretty old/oaky with more moderate spicy-sweet, also a really rich mouthfeel... seemingly like "bourbon-syrup"; a real winner.  .... Also, an empty of WT Rare Breed 108.? from several years back that had been sipped and savored for over a year before succumbing a few weex back.   Last-but-not-least, an empty of Toogie's Inv. Booker's that had been a frequent 'small-starter-pour' over a long period of time finally hit the recycle bin a week or so ago.    All led interesting and fulfilling lives for a good long while; but sadly, gone away now.

Joseph Magnus SB PS. Want to get a few more of these from different barrels to compare.  This one made me feel like I was somebody.

I had never had this until recently.  We were at Troll Under the Bridge Pub next to the KFC YUM Center is Louisville before a Cardinals game and my son decided he needed to try this because his initials are JTS.  Was pleasantly surprised and have added a bottle to my ever growing stash.  It's not on the shelves every day but generally you can find it here.

Agreed.  It was gifted to me, by a friend who lives in Kentucky.   She takes my bourbon orders, and brings them here when I see her during football season.    She keeps us in New Riff, because you can't get it here.  A lot of times, she'll snag a bottle of something that she thinks I'll like.  She hit a home run with this one.   It checks all of the boxes. Cheap and tasty!

I have a couple of those I've never gotten around to opening (I have too much bourbon). This makes me want to open one up.

I've opened 2 different barrels and loved them both - classic and wonderful.  And having too much bourbon is one of those small pleasures of life that I'm sure many SBers enjoy.  Cheers
