In the spirit of this month's SB Bottle of the Month, RR Single Barrel is in my glass tonight.  It never disappoints.

For me, the old SmB was the peanuttiest of the Beam Small Batch collection, but I enjoyed it as an occasional pour. Never quite got its price point being higher than KC, though. Won't bother with the SiB given the price. I can say that a blend of 6.5 oz. of Old Tub and 3.5 oz. of KC single barrel will net you 10 oz. of 107-proof whiskey with an average age near 6 years, and with the extra peanut touch from Old Tub, you're getting what I like to think of as a Baker's Single, uh, Bottle.

Friend, you are someone who has found a way to skin the cat.  Figuratively obviously!  This type of thinking is why this forum is so great.

I agree on the price point compared to KC.  I could find KC for $25 and Bakers for $45.  I would take two-for-one almost every time, especially since I prefer KC over Bakers.

Don't sleep on the Baker's SmB & Distiller's Cut blend.  I find the 50:50 blend better than either one on their own.

I probably shouldn’t let this sit so long between pours 🤔🥃

Allow me to help you with that, because you're clearly not up to the task. 😁

Took a trip to see my Son/D-I-L/Grandson a week ago and even with the untapped Blantons that I gave him, I chose the Bulliet which I've not had in awhile. It was very enjoyable...

I know, I know, "What bourbon are you drinking?" Sorry, I never was good at following directions. KC Rye to begin with, then I walked the lineup eyeing the bottles like soldiers at inspection. Settled on the Irish fella at the end of the row.  I think this is the most enjoyment I have gotten from this stuff since I first opened it. Such a soft, buttery mouth feel. Such a juxtaposition against the spicy rye that preceded it. And you have to admit, the color does complement my wife's birthday floral arrangement.

Beautiful

Yep, it brought a tear of joy to my eye.  Almost looks like one of those old liquor ads in a magazine.  Poetry in photography.

FR Small Batch Select...my only open bottle right now... but its a good one when there's too much craft bourbon noise on the shelf and you can't make a decision at the LS.

Whiskey in the Buffalo!  Right there on the glass, just a different pour.  I have never seen Belle Meade Single Barrel Cask Strength minis.  I will have to be on the look out.

In military vernacular, I would say "left, left, left, right, left.  But I suspect to avoid the left you only hop on your right foot.  😀   Same as you, I could resist.  If we can't have fun, it isn't worth the time.

Not sure if serious but.. its adhesive printer paper. Its good for makin sample bottles seem a little more official. This (EHT)was my first attempt a few years ago. Ive been told the distilleries frown upon it but this belle meade  was given to me.. so not guilty. 0B221FF5-CA29-4016-A4DA-A8C671E385D0.thumb.png.9f55c7b059bf9f58fd7dbb92f421d89d.png

Darn.  Actually, I was serious.  I would certainly buy a mini of it.  Thanks for clarifying.  It looks convincing or my eyes are deceiving me.

I've mentioned that I don't generally like the Buffalo Trace profile (other than Staggs) so I had a partial bottle of Eagle Rare that I never drank.  And that last summer I bought a Benchmark Full Prof and found it hot and harsh so, hoping some time and air might mellow it out, I dumped several ounces out and threw them in the Eagle Rare Bottle.  Six months later, that combo is much better--to me--than either one separately, and I had most of the rest of the bottle last night.  It was actually good enough that I would buy another Eagle Rare and repeat the experiment.

Busy week.  I taught a class from Tuesday to Saturday.  Had guests a few evenings.  Then celebrated the end of the class.

Wednesday with a client:  Did the Blanton's ladder (regular, Gold, and SFTB) with them.  I enjoyed it a lot the first time I did it (a few weeks ago!) and like sharing it.  The increase in flavor from Gold & SFTB compared to the regular Blanton's really is something.  Then tried an ECBP C922.  My friend went nuts over it.  Orders were made on the spot.  He liked it more than any of the Blanton's.

Friday with 3 CPAs to whom I refer business:  Blanton's ladder again.  The normally "low-proof girl" preferred the SFTB, much to her surprise.  The gin girl ignored the bourbon and tried Monkey 47 for the first time.  She spent the remainder of the evening putting a serious dent in that bottle.

The leader of the pack & I continued on and tried ECBP & Larceny C922 to compare rye vs wheated, he preferred the Larceny.  And then JMCB.  He loved the JMCB and Blanton's SFTB.

Saturday afternoon brief visit from a pal after class ended at noon.  Tried the JDSBBP.  This was my second time trying it, did not much care for it the first time.  Loved it this time.  The sweetness and the comparative lack of burn for the proof.  Granted, how I view proof has changed a lot in the last year.  Getting used to it and enjoying the flavor & oiliness.  My pal loved it as well.  I have stopped being surprised at how much my palate has changed and is changing and just enjoy the ride.

Then my local bourbon buddy came over.  The original idea was to do an ECBP comparison.  How it came out:

1) Private label from Evergreen (all of the PL's were only 10y as opposed to 12y)

2) Private label from Main Street Liquors (thank you, you know who you are)

3) C922 (which is very good)

4) KY Colonel private label

We continued on.  He has way more bourbon experience than I do.  But I had a few he had never tried, so try them we did.

1) He really liked Widow Jane 13 "in spite of the lack of proof"

2) He really liked JMCB #104

3) He really liked the Dry Fly 9y wheat whiskey, to a degree that surprised him

4) He liked the Rebel 10y, but not as much as the Dry Fly

5) He thought the Lux Row DB 12y too tannic

6) Liked the Castarede 1979 Armagnac.  We both thought it like cognacs in that they are hotter than their proof would indicate.

Long night!

I am cool with BT #1 mash bill, especially BT, ET and Stagg.  I loved Old Charter.  Anyway, I found the first Stagg Jr. to be a hot mess. I ended up blending it with BT and the blend was spectacular.

I completely understand your thoughts on Eagle Rare.  The last few, er several bottles, have been underwhelming.  I can't quite place put my finger on it.  Your experience gives me another avenue to explore if I find the next Eagle Rare to be meh.

All that alcohol yet you were still coherent enough to post.  Win!  Evergreen?  Evergreen Liquors in Louisville or something else?  Blanton's ladder is a foreign concept to me.
