Drinking a Calumet 14 I purchased yesterday. Though I've declared my preference for the 15 I found the 14 for a good price so I gave it another go. Second pour and I have to say I still prefer the 15. I have a 16yr also and my first pour was just OK. My second pour was incredible. Third pour just OK. This further cements how my palate needs to be in the right place for certain older bourbons. It also cements how incredible the 15yr is to my palate because it is always good to me. I never need a good palate day for the 15 - it always works.

14-15-16.  Reminds me of high school.  When I was 14 (Jr. High), I preferred any girl.  When I was 15 (freshman year), I preferred any girl. When I was 16 (sophomore), I preferred any girl. I guess I really had no preference other than "girl." 😀  I am not sure how to apply that to whiskey preferences at 60.  How do you tell the gender of whiskey?  😜

Whiskey is the common spelling in the U.S. and Ireland.  So it has to be masculine.

Whisky is the common spelling in Scotland, Canada, and Japan. So it has to be feminine.

See I am a thinking man!  😜

The more we drink, the more we think.

Watching Somebody Feed Phil.  Awesome show.

Drinking Wheat Whiskey.  Not bourbon, but pretty darn close (not really 😉) and just as good.  Backbone Wheat Single Barrel 120 proof.  Finishing up second bottle.  Plan to buy more this week before it disappears.

Per the Happy Birthday Jimmy thread I'm drinking a RR13 in honor of Jimmy's birthday today. Pure legend. One of the last remaining originals.

All that alcohol yet you were still coherent enough to post.  Win!  Evergreen?  Evergreen Liquors in Louisville or something else?  Blanton's ladder is a foreign concept to me.

I posted well after said events!

Evergreen in Louisville, yup.

3 pours for people to compare all at once:  Regular Blanton's, Gold, SFTB.  Picked up bottles of the latter two in France at the best prices I'm likely to ever see ($103 Gold and $120 for SFTB) and enjoying them quite a lot.  The difference between those two bottles and the regular version was quite surprising to me.

Ah.  I missed it.  Should not post pre-coffee.  Should not post pre-coffee.

Well played, indeed.

I've mentioned that I don't generally like the Buffalo Trace profile (other than Staggs) so I had a partial bottle of Eagle Rare that I never drank.  And that last summer I bought a Benchmark Full Prof and found it hot and harsh so, hoping some time and air might mellow it out, I dumped several ounces out and threw them in the Eagle Rare Bottle.  Six months later, that combo is much better--to me--than either one separately, and I had most of the rest of the bottle last night.  It was actually good enough that I would buy another Eagle Rare and repeat the experiment.

Same here.

Not a huge ER fan either but, (thanks to another poster whose name escapes me),  a small splash of Stagg Jr in the glass with ER makes for an outstanding pour.

Joe I think Elmer wants you to take the last drop straight from the bottle. And probably slightly watered to a perfect 60 proof. :)

JDSBBP.  Is a fickle palate the norm for the new?

The first time I tried it I really did not like it.  At all.

And now I do.  Quite a bit.  I'm surprised at the lack of burn for its 129 proof.

Could be I'm getting used to the higher proofs.  Or it opened up.  Or I'm crazy.  2 out of 3?

I always found ETL to be meh compared to Blanton's or RHF, but ETL 93 is awesomeness in a bottle.  I lost my last ETL 93 in the SB.com FF league, probably to @jvd99 for all I know.

I believe Elmer preferred his bourbon mixed with Sprite.

Funny....I drank one in the past couple years because I was too lazy to go the LS, not sure if it was yours or not. That was a good bottle to put up. I remember my first year doing the SB FF I put up, and lost, a BTAC ER17

Nice!  That’s a good one to celebrate with.  I zoomed in on your key there because I thought is said Cowdery, and I wondered what Chuck had to do with this story…😂

Then I looked up Cowdray.  If that is the Cowdray that Google provided, that must have been some wedding!  Wow!  If not, I’m sure it was a fabulous day, anyway.
