I hope it’s okay for this to land here, eh.  Impulse buy but enjoyed their stuff in the past.

I think the rye is worth the price, IF you like double oak products.  I won't buy multiples, but we are enjoying the heck out of the one we have open.  I like it a lot more than the double oak bourbon, but I'm not a huge Peerless bourbon fan.

Thanks for the information. I have passed on it twice but now I'm having second thoughts! 🤔😄

It is not uncommon, nor even a negative thing to have 'second thoughts' about passing on an expensive dram.

But, consider this... Not passing, then being disappointed, and instead having 'regrets' about pulling the trigger is a worse scenario, no?   I mean, then you're out the cheddar, and left with a poorly-enjoyed bottle you're embarrassed to share.

Just my opinion, of course.

One of the good things about SB.com - before anything new gets distributed in South central Indiana (if it ever makes it here) several trustworthy people have already tried it. 🤔

I share your opinion Richnimrod.  I may have "second thoughts" about passing on it.  But I don't have any "regret" which is different.  This one will come around again, and with Peerless, you never know -- next time the whiskey may be aged a year longer when it does show up next 😉

Wt101 in the glass tonight. I had a pour of scarlet shade yesterday and it is really good. I followed it with a pour of the mhs sherbrook sib. Which blew the orphan barrel away, but I'm planning on owning both I suppose. I did get a cool box.

I’m half way through a bottle of Old Ezra Rye 7yr Full Proof.  It’s a mingle of MGP 95/5 and their 51% rye at 114 proof, and done very well.  The 95 which can overpower almost anything with its uber-dill notes, is much in check.  I assume the 51% has much to do with this, and also brings the waxy mouthfeel and a pretty sharp bite.  It’s that controlling interaction with the expected 95/5 dill notes, that makes me positive on this whiskey.  Sipped neat is nice.  Over an ice cube, is nice as well.  In a Cocktail will come next.  All said above, I’m not sure how it will work in some of my favorite cocktails.  We’ll see.  But I like this rye on its own.

Wow I had no idea that this one was a blend of MGP and their own 51% rye distillate.  Now this makes me think I shouldn't have passed on this when I saw it on the shelf a few months ago.  I thought it was just another MGP 95% rye, which is why I passed when I did (I have plenty of MGP rye already).  I find that MGP rye whiskies also sometimes overpower me with the dill note.

This one makes me think of the Sagamore ryes which also blend MGP rye with their own distillate, if I'm not mistaken.  Those are good too.

Well, people post here about plenty of other rye that comes from the same distillery in this thread under other labels, so why not post about their own label here too? Some of the others have tried to confuse consumers at least to some degree to not always obviously point out that they’re bottling Canadian rye versus American (Whistlepig, Masterson’s, LS&B, Hochstadters, Jefferson’s, all to varying degrees). Alberta is capable of putting out some good juice. Their Cask Strength can be delicious sometimes, and generally isn’t too expensive which is nice.

Just as an fyi, MGP has its own low rye mash bill.  They’ve been using it for a while in the Rossville.

I cannot remember exactly what the %’s are, but it was definitely 50 something rye and a lot of malted barley.

I was reliably told that the BP Rossville was a blend of both 95/5 and the lower rye mash bill, while the store picks could be either mash bill.

On a personal note, Im not a fan of the lower rye recipe by itself due to malt content, so I typically have a try before buying rule on single barrels/store picks  that don’t specifically say they are 95/5.  Blended well together, the two mashbills can compliment each other very nicely.

Point is, I think the Old Ezra may actually be all an MGP blend, just like the Rossville.  At least according to the label it’s “distilled and aged in IN for lux row”

Since lux row opened the distillery in bardstown in 2018, I know they shouldn’t have any house distilled 7 year rye yet.

Anyway, the OE 7 year rye is pretty decent. 🥃

This one is perilously close to being in the "Empty Bottle Support Group" thread. 😁

I have several single barrel Rossville Union (MGP) ryes at the various mashbill.  My favorite was called the "savory" pick.  it was the 51% rye distillate and was very much like a high rye bourbon.  I believe they also have a blend of the 95/5 rye and 51/45/4 rye, both 94 proof and uncut cask strength.  I really like the 95% wheat whiskey.

I started a warm summer's evening on the deck with a cool fan blowing on me and a nice pour of Chattanooga Malted Rye. An enjoyable pour yet I am not likely to replace the bottle when it is empty.  It is a price thing.  I would probably keep a bottle on hand at $30 maybe $35 because it is very unique with its chocolate malt profile.  However, when the price jumps to $45, which is what I paid, the Cheap Bastard side of me says I can find more or better enjoyment either cheaper or at the same price.  I can get the OE7 Rye for only $10 more.  But, I will never say never because I just found a new liquor store near me that sells both the 91 and 111 proof bourbon $5 cheaper than any where else.

Coincidence or fate: I received texts from 2 friends (both named Eric) this evening talking about rye. Between that and Colter Wall dropping a new album today with a song about getting drunk on a bottle of rye, here I am 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve been bouncing back and forth from a HWDRPS and Prideful goat Rye. I’m fond of the HW. Both are nice though, albeit a bit pricey for what they are. 🤷‍♂️

Happy FRyeday

I have over the years been quite vocal on my general dislike for proof and wood offerings. I gave away several open bottles of the senator, didn't care for the roulette, and so on. I did really enjoy their polish rye they labeled the stranger though. So ive been wary of this crossboarder jackpot ive been seeing around lately. Its stats are listed on the back, and it seems like they were going for a little book ch2 style blend. I came across one at a buddies store at a super on sale price. So I thought for 20 some dollars id take the chance.  Its fairly enjoyable to drink. A long way from the little book. But it does have some similarities. Ignoring that comparison and taken on its own im happy with this as a change of pace pour in the budget category.20230715_180440.thumb.jpg.934e3df86691ead0dbaca50fa49c65f5.jpg

Bought this several years ago and finally got around to opening it this past Friday.

Single Barrel and Sweet Mash, so probably won’t find another one.

Really darn good!

Even if you do find another 15d17 it probably wont be the same barrel. That actually the time code, not barrel #, so there are many barrels of 15d17. However it was of their first releases, which in my mind were all fantastic.

Ah… bummer.

Oh well, I’ll enjoy the heck out of this one at least.  It is really good.

Bu…Bu…Bu…it says Barrel No.  Are you saying WTr is labeling the “barrel number” with a time code?

I believe it is the date code for April 17, 2015.

The first # is the year.

The letter is the month.

The second # is the day.

If there is a third #, that is the barrel #.
