Finished off two that were on their last legs. EWSB 1999, bottled in 2009, and a Four Roses barrel strength from 2014. Got the latter from Lake Street Liquor in Lake Charles, the last of three that I bought back then. LCWoody probably has several in his bunker

I bought a handle, and tried it a few times, and ended up giving it away.

That's a shame too, because I love cheap.

Well you shouldn't feel guilty because in all fairness I believe Heaven Hill whiskey is polarizing because of its pronounced nutty note (similarly Beam has their "peanutty" note).  How do you like Elijah Craig and other HH bourbons?  I happen to like them but I recognize not everyone does.

Nice work there, especially that EWSB.  think I have a couple of LSL store picks in my bunker too, but they would be more recent than yours.

That's the thing, I do like a few of their other offerings, with my favorites being Pikesville, Rittenhouse & (gasp!), Mellow Corn.  I used to like McKenna 10 year, back in the screw-top days when it was reasonably priced.    I can take or leave Elijah Craig and I have a few bottles of the ECBP which I like, but don't love.   I don't like the standard Larceny at all, but I did snag a bottle of the C922 release BP that I enjoy.    I used to really like the HH BiB too.   

 

I feel guilty because I'm such a cheap bastard.

This was surprisingly good and only $13.  86 proof, no Beam funk, and didn't taste overoaked.

I tried this at the distillery in 2019 on the bourbon trail trip that opened my eyes to bourbon.  Didn't like it at all then but I wonder how my palate's changed.

I wonder, isnt this the current equivalent of their 8 year product from several years back?  Those were pretty good

Well, four down over the past few weeks. Yes, my Weller Blend was already pictured. Not pictured are family sized bottles of BT and MM that were decanted.

Are you maybe thinking of the Jim Beam Black that used to be 8yrs but is now NAS?  That 8yr release was pretty good.  The Double Oak bottle I posed is NAS but a lot better than the current NAS JB Black.

This was delicious with so much intensity of flavor.  Definitely Dickel so not for everyone (my wife hates it).  A K&L pick and, according to them, it was aged 13 yrs and the barrel only yielded 132 bottles.  13yo and 100 proof would seem to be identical to the 13yr BiB.  I didn't do a side by side but, from memory, this had a lot more going on than the BiB.  Glad I've got one more bottle of this.

That was the 1st 4Roses store pick that Lake Street did. My self and Ms Sue’s husband had to talk her into getting that barrel. She did not want to spend that much money on a barrel because she only sold about 10 bottles of 4Roses SB a year, on average. After it sold out in about a month we never had to talk her into buying a barrel again. Yes, I do have a few bottles left, and have great memories of helping pick all the barrels at Lake Street.

Yes, that's the one I was thinking of.  Your bottle label looked like it was black so it think it made me think of JBB but I didn't remember without looking. I think I may have a JBB8 still laying around somewhere.

I have a number of OF1920 and older BiB, Statesman, Single Barrel, but had been slighting 1897. Will need to make amends and get another one day.
