Wedelstaedt
With all of the talk about Four Roses, I had to go to the cabinet. Pulled out 4R SmB. This expression is overlooked by many. Too bad for those folks. 4R SmB is a fine whiskey, which will always be on my bar. Hail to The Cult!! Almost finished my kitchen clean-up duties. Only have about 650 ml to go before it is emptied. For whatever reason, I really like the HH BIBs. The higher proofs/older ages in sister/brother brands are OK but not something I seek. THIS stuff really appeals to me although I've tried multiple times to "document" my notes on it and have not been able to pin down the characteristics that catch me. Is kind of like LOVE - I now it when it grabs me by the whoopies, but for the life of me, I cannot tell you WHY some things grab me and others pass me by. I resisted buying it because pulling the 6 year, (which was the perfect combo of flavor and price), and replacing it with the 7 year in a prettier bottle with a heftier price tag is bush league, the extra year in the barrel be damned. That probably has a lot with me being a Cheap Bastard. That said, I finally bought one and DAMMIT, I really, really like it. Dare I say I love it? Regardless , it has impressed me enough that I'll buy another one when this one is gone I seem to recall that you didn't see it very often in your neck of the woods. I snagged a bottle at the Total Wine in Laurel, and they had plenty, albeit at $49.99 a bottle. That location is about 25 minutes from me and I'm guessing between 30-45 minutes from DC by car. If you don't mind dealing with the BW Parkway mess, it might be worth the trip. I hadn't been in a while and they had a really good selection of everything there and the prices weren't too bad on some stuff. They also have a lot of cool stuff, barware, glassware, etc...enough to keep you occupied for a while. After semiannual dental appts. in White Oak (with docs we've known for YEARS), we drive up to the Dutch Market in Laurel. I've only been to that TW once. NOW I have a reason to drop in more often. Indeed, HH BIB 7 at least until recently was rarely available in Wash DC and was overpriced (circa $100) when it did appear. Just this week, though (as I posted someplace else on SB Thursday late PM), the Wegman's on Wisconsin Ave. NW Wash DC had a fairly large display of HH BIB 750s @ $40+. I was so surprised seeing it at that price that I thought it must be the 80 proof. It wasn't. EDIT - I, too, was of the "pass on principle" state of mind on HH BIB 7 over 6 until a purveyor offered me a taste. THAT caused me to be one of those "Okay, I'll pop for one bottle at $99 just to be nice to these guys." I think that might be a bait and switch so I feel "good" about paying "only" $40+ for what I used to get for $20 a year younger. It's one of my favorites, along with the cheesy little glass that Beam gives out on their tours Glasses with raised designs or noticeable seams appear to be more brittle. smokinjoe
Better than I expected. $16 makes it even better than that…But, for similar coin, there are many better. And, not just aged 36 months.

I bought a handle of this while out of state, just for curiosity's sake. I saw the higher ABV, and I was hooked, lol. At this store, they do not have the regular higher Barrel Proof stuff, very very seldom they do.

fosmith
This is actually pretty good. I'm liking it better than any Blanton's I've had recently. Sadly, probably not going to be able to replace the bottle...
fosmith
Dang! This is good. On the nose and palate, I would guess well aged MGP. But it's a KSBW. $150 msrp. $50 at K&L because of special purchase. I thought it might be too good to be true but I wish I'd bought more than one...

So rich, deep and complex.. Did they run out of 14 year labels? j/k Dickel does the same thing with picks. Older whiskey in bottles with younger age statements on the bottles. That said.....this post is triggering me....I have one stashed from a 2017 visit to Beam that I bottled myself*. *by bottling...they gave you a bottle....let you rinse it in that bourbon eye-wash looking contraption...and handed to a guy who put it on the line to watch it fill. Then they handed you the bottle to give to the person who dipped the necks.

Our freezer is too small....just enough room for the bottle of Mellow Corn that resides in there.
PaulO
I usually don't go much for finished Bourbon, but this Legent is very pleasant. That Japanese guy must know what he's doing. The first time I tried it - next day was on a mission, to take advantage of a crazy sale. I left one on the shelf for good Bourbon karma.
