JamesW
I had Slowpoke over last night for a mini bourbon festival :icon_pidu:. Started with the official drink of 2007 KBF, a Fashionable Manhattan. We then ate some great ribs for dinner (some Coronas went well with that) and then drank a great variety of bourbon the rest of the night of which I cannot remember the order except that the GTS '07 was fantastic to start with and then it all gets hazy from there. From what I recall we had: GTS '07, ER17 '07, PH122.6, PVW15, PVW20, VSOF, ORVW 10/107, & Centennial 13 yr. All told a great night of bourbon celebration. Jono
Scott...I have an old bottle of Weller Special Reserve 90% - 7 years old...I purchased this years ago before I even enjoyed bourbon...just to have as a bar bottle. For some reason, over the years when I tasted it, it never wowed me. So tonight, I pulled it out again. It has a nice nose...some sweet notes....light amber color..it is a wheater....a fairly smooth mouth feel...oaky...with a finish that ends a little dry. I am not great at identifying specific tasting notes...but my overall impression is that it is ok.Here are some tasting notes...our own Spun-Cookie added one:http://www.bourbonenthusiast.com/forum/DBvd.php?id=272&task=displaybottling"Neat:Very light and crisp... light tastes of oak, pecans, and vanilla"Seems about right....the pecan note is appreciated as an after taste. Not sure which release, however. I also tried:Old Granddad BIB (ND)Old Granddad 86pf from the 70sOld Granddad 114 from early 80s (ND)GTS Spring '05The last one was the bourbon that turned me into a bourbonian. The OGD 114 by ND was outstanding. That may be my favorite of the bunch.
mgilbertva
Doh! How could I forget? We also tried an Eagle Rare SB 10yr that was a Julio's special pick. I'm not normally a fan of ER as I find it too candied and fruity, but this one was different. More wood and spice to balance it out making for a very good bourbon. Normally I pass on ER, but this one I would buy ... if only I could.
SBOmarc
Yesterday was one of those absolutely glorious Spring days... middle 70's, bright sunshine and brilliant blue skies. We took a day off and went down to Keeneland with the neighbors. The dogwoods are in bloom and there was energy flowing through the crowd. Spending the afternoon in the warm sunshine with good friends; drinking BT and cursing the ponies. Springtime in Kentucky doesn't get much better than that. What a Post Card that makes for me right now!

PhilsFan
I was trying to hold off trying it until the Sampler, but after my friends at work came in after their Monday night pour of PVW23...and with the bottle sitting in my house calling my name...I couldn't resist. It's warm and it gets warmer with every sip, it goes down so smooth, it smells fantastic and it has flavors like I've never tasted in a bourbon before.... I'm going to try to make the 200 ml I have left last as long as I can, but I may have to buy another bottle in the not too distant future and not split it. The people who make this have a right to be proud.-Joe
