Today it's been some WTAS, AAA 10yo, Basil Hayden, ETL, FR120th, WTKS, there may have been a few others....

Almost finished my Weller Antique 107 last night. One more left. Love the stuff. I'll replace it soon, but need to empty a few others first...like last year's BTAC.

While the older versions are very elegant and dry on the finish, the '80s versions I've had before always had a massive butterscotch note. This '80s bottle that I just opened doesn't really have this tonight, but as I recall the big butterscotch has to develop with a bit of oxygen contact. I'll check back in a week or so.

(It's now just one day later; set mind to Doors' "LA Woman")

Mister Butterscotch Rising!

Mister Butterscotch Rising!

Butterscotch Rising!

Whew!

Repeat as necessary. Drink liberally.

Tonight I found in the back of the bunker, the little short bottle of BTEC, the Twice Barreled from a couple of years ago. Havent seen this one hide in the back in a while. Still got 3/4ths of the bottle left. So I decided to try a small pour of it to start the night, after this who knows.....

Right now I am drinking some William Larue Weller from the 2005 BTAC.

This isn't the first one today, I have had several stellar pours.

Details later.

Ancient Age BIB. Another fine BT product. I really like the AAA 10 year and the BIB does not disappoint. Wonderful candied nose with a hint of spice. Good flavor on entry with some cinnamon, mild oak, vanilla and nice sweetness on the palate to the finish which may have some dark chocolate and pepper spice. At $13 a 750ml, I'm very impressed.

Ok, here are the promised details.

ACDetroit/Tony was in the neighborhood yesterday at a funeral for a friend's father in Brooklyn which is about 6 miles from me.

So we poured a few, they are as follows.

Willett Family Estate Single Barrel

The 25yo that was sent to California and Japan.

This is a chocolate monster, we let some breathe for an hour and it really brought the chocolate out. Tony had a chocolate chip cookie with it and he said you could not tell where the candy ended and the bourbon began.

Hey Tony, I tried a cookie with it later and you were right.

Pappy Van Winkle 15yo

Tony brought this one over it was a special bottle for BD.com, BE.com, Loch & key and Julio's.

Another Pappy classic but doesn't it seem like they all are?

Hey Tony, you forgot to take it home, I'll save it for you I promise.

Rock Hill Farms

Series #2 from Julio's, I have posted before about this bottle.

The best RHF I have ever had and besides the Weller's, Van Winkle's and the BTAC it is the best there is from the BT Distillery.

Four Roses Single Barrell

It seems that everytime me and that Eastside Dog get together there is always one bottle that stops us in our tracks.

This one is a special bottle from McScrooge's in Knoxville and it had us marvelling at it.

It has more sweet fruit than any other FRSB that I have ever had. If I were to rank my favorite FR's bottles they line up this way, #1 The 40th, #2 The 120th and #3 this McScrooge's. Mr. Rutledge, you are an artist.

William Larue Weller 2005 BTAC

I have never had the 2005 Larue I got one when it came out and I never opened it because of bad reviews, a few months ago I got another one to try it because I liked the 2007 so much.

OK, it is not an '06 or '07 but it is Larue and it is good. Some oak in the finish but it is good oak and yes a bit dry at the end also but I like it. It has all the Weller characteristics and the 121.9 proof fits it perfectly.

I did cut one to 100proof, (1 to 0.219) and yes friends it is worthy of the Weller name.

George Dickel #12

I have one opened and Tony wanted to try it, he's only had the #8.

He wasn't thrilled. Said he, "Not as much Flintstone vitamins as the #8 but I still taste them."

Laphroaig 15yo

O: "Hey Tony try this peat monster"

T: "Wow,... damn you Oscar now I want to get some scotch"

Royal by Suntory

An old bottle from the '70's, good smoke but subtle, probably should have started with this one.

Tony liked it and of course the Master Dusty Hunter said, "I know a store that has a bottle of this same old edition."

It was a great sunny October day, only one thing could have improved it and that is if the Tigers were still playing baseball.

One of the greatest things I've found on this board are the great members/friends we make!

Yesterday was a great afternoon Oscar! I think you "Quoted" me on every pour to a tee!

Thanks for the samples of the Willett and yes it does need to breath for a good 60 minutes.

After Roger's post I may run down stairs and open some Old Taylor from last weeks hunt! BIB 1970 -bottled 1978 while I watch football.

Might have to do that now but it needs to sit for a while...seems to open up after 30 minutes and on.

I'll put it in a glass and post my thoughts later.

The Air Show was in town over the weekend at the AFB a couple of miles from my house. Although I didn't make it over, I still could see The Thunderbirds flying around in the sky this afternoon, during their routine. Absolutely AWESOME!!!! Me needs to get me one of them F-16's!! ;) To salute them, I have been dipping into my WT American Spirit.

I'm having watered down Powerade this evening. I seem to have caught the stomach bug that is going around these parts. :puke:

In my mind, I'm enjoying a nice pour of Weller 12.

I'm drinking diet Dr. Pepper. It seems there is another bug going around my area: working midnights! I suspect my condition will greatly improve by Thursday at 8AM!
