MissingKY
Broke out a 200ml of Yellowstone I hadn't tried in a while. This one's 90 proof, bottle-bottom date of 1992, says "Distilled by Yellowstone Distillery Co. Louisville, KY" on the bottom. It's a fairly good whiskey for two bucks a 200ml. Nothing really remarkable, maybe a bit bland a little thin in the mouth, but a nice simple bourbon. One odd thing about it: the finish doesn't feel particularly long, but about 30 seconds after taking a drink, I keep getting an intense taste of maraschino cherries in my mouth. callmeox
Last night I poured some VWFRR and then got distracted by a call from work. I got back to it after about an hour and that time in the glass did something amazing to the whiskey. There was more ripe fruit on the nose than I had ever experienced with this bottle. It was a much different pour than when I tried it over the weekend. There's something about the nose of an older rye that just pushes all of the right buttons for me.I think I'll have to start planning ahead

PhilsFan
Had an early start today...one of my bourbon lovin' friends from work requested a sampling of the '08 WLW, so we had a group of 6 try it in the 1PM hour...rave reviews...all of us had it neat.-Joe

smokinjoe
Just returned from my daughter's school Talent Show. She and a couple of her friends did a terrific dance routine. We toasted with Pappy 23 for me, and Ale-8-One for daughter and momma. It brings that Trace Adkins song to mind..."You're gonna miss this..." polyamnesia
finally....and WOW i am impressed...OLD GRAND DAD 114 !a nice contrast to the un-rye-ish Joshua Brook. gave me a nice sense of totally different notes of sweetness. and spice!hoping the 20.99 price was good...heck, the way it went down before it got chewy and went across the tongue, it was PRICELESS. Jazzhead
Tonight I went back to one I haven't poured from in a while - Rock Hill Farms. The packaging is a nuisance, but the bourbon is smooth. The nose and first flavor reminds me of Old Grandad, a real old time, dry pour. Something sweeter, like the amazing Four Roses single barrel, might punch my ticket next. Man, I can't stand the RHF bottle. My least favorite bottle. The horsies are nice, but the cork takes a real yank to remove and I confess the occasional urge to take a nip right from the bottle. The wide lip just leads to dribblin'.
callmeox
More rye tonight (surprise!). I took VWFRR and Ritt BiB to a friends house to compare a fresh pour of each to one that has had 30 minutes or more to breathe. I think I'm creating another rye fan, though my one bottle of VWFRR took a serious hit tonight. If anyone sees more on the shelf, please let me know and we can work out a deal or trade since Van Winkle anything is unobtanium in Ohio. PhilsFan
My wife and I just got back from seeing my daughter and the grandkids in Franklin, TN... they have a great Halloween celebration in the center of town. Found out the World Series was in a rain delay and I didn't miss anything, so with the late start of the game, I'm starting late with JTS Brown.-Joe

Luna56
Had some ERSB10 earlier, now trying some Ezra Brooks (the cheap stuff) I bought on a whim. Let's just say that my whims rarely pay off under $10.I'm severely "underwhimmed." Gonna dump this pour outside and go back in the house for some more ERSB. It's raining buckets, 40 mph gusts, but it'll be worth it.Cheers!
polyamnesia
playing off the two extreme bottles i have in my non-bunker:back and forth OGD 114 and the Joshua Brook 90...then i did a in-glass vat awhile ago...that was interesting!took the 114 edge off...but only for a moment. the JBrook sweetness lingered...then the rye of OGDad asserted it's cinnamon burn. like a nibble of Hershey's milk chocolake interrupted by a wedge of Special Dark...!
