HOF44
The new retail in Cali seems to be $100 for 8-9 year Willett releases. I was there last month for work and several shops were getting in bottles in this range (I think all from the same distributor, rather than actual barrel selections by each store). That makes me feel better, was used to seeing these in the 60 70 range. But I like them so it was worth it to me. Plus I was able to get GTS and ER 17 for 79.99 a bottle this year, so it all balances out.
393foureyedfox
The new retail in Cali seems to be $100 for 8-9 year Willett releases. count me out. At a tour of Willett during last year's KBF, I really loved the 8 year barrel proof they had, so when I found an 8 year WFE months later at $59, I hesitated but bought it anyway. It was nothing like the 8 year at the tour, and I will never again pay $59, or the new higher prices, for something I have no reference for to begin with.No................thanks........... ThirstyinOhio
I recently acquired 2014 versions of WLW, OFBB, and Angel's Envy. I got to try to the WLW for the first time last night and it was very very good.

And half a dozen posters here told you there was a very good chance it would taste nothing like the first one you tried...
sutton
My wife just grabbed me an OWA loch & k(e)y micro-batch from Julio's.Let me know what you think of it - just bought another one myself. The single barrel is also very good, but I think I like this micro-batch just a bit better. Believe it is two barrels mingled - all at least 7 yrs old from what I gathered.Had good luck with a Yankee Spirits single barrel OWA if you come across that one - also 7+ yrs. Cheers! Cheers!Mark, I'm lucky I loaded up on a OWA single barrel store selection from Redstone in stoneham, 3 750's and a 1.75. For the $22/btl it was a bargain. I was shocked at the richness and overall balance of the flavor profile. In just a couple of weeks I've already plowed thru the 1st bottle, impossible to resist. Still gotta find an excuse to make it to Julios some day, it's a haul from my house.
sutton
Hey Gerry, probably only another 10 or 12 miles to Westborough if you're driving to Stoneham! Right down 495. Julio's had a number of store picks last time I was there - a couple of different OWAs and McKenna 10yr BiBs, BT, Blanton's, Jefferson's, Old Scout Bourbon and Rye, ... probably others as well. ldugsjr1986
Today was a good bourbon purchase day for me ...- A case of ER10 Store Select which is one of the most delicious tasting bourbons I've had (have blind SBS'ed this barrel among many, many other ER10s and other bourbons and this has won each time) - 2 bottles of FRSB Barrel Strength OESO, if they're good I'll likely get a case next week - 1 get set of FRSmB with the flask they put in it for the holidays- 1 CEHTBPThis store just got there Van Winkle allotment in. The guy told me to come back a few hours later if I wanted any (they had to price it), but I'm not feeling the hype. I've never tried any, and really like so many other bourbons that I figure I can stick with those and not get pulled into the whirlwind. Instead he told me he'd put my name on a bottle of ECBP and ETLs they're expecting in the next week.
Renegator
Grabbed a bottle of ETL and a bottle of OF86 for making barrel aged manhattans. Funny story on the ETL: I noticed it wasn't on the shelf so I asked my go-to guy about it. He said they keep it in the back now for "regular customers only". Another store near me has/had a private selection of ETL with a limit of 1 per customer. My how things have changed...

El Vino
The bourbon gods were smiling on me today. Got a call from a store which I frequent that I had a bottle of 2014 GTS available at $119.99 with my name on it. Not MSRP, but not totally gouging either. Delighted to add to the bunker as it means the bottle I acquired from my friend will be immediately placed into the on-deck circle. Happy Friday! mbroo5880i
It is always cool to read about various top shelf bourbons that people buy. I don't post buys very often but I did enjoy a nice sale today at a local retailer, 15% off. So, I bought a CEHT BP, OWA, WTRB, HHBIB, HWDR, FR OBSK. Never had the CEHT BP but I love the BT#1 mashbill and enjoy CEHT SmB. The rest are just to build up the bunker a little. It doesn't hurt to save a little money. Prices are going to be higher and the whiskey younger come Spring.I didn't buy it but a contractor at work gave me a Woodford Reserve gift set for Christmas. Woodford used to be an old standby but I don't purchase it anymore because it isn't a good value. Of course, free is a good value so I will enjoy it. It came with a nice Glencairn glass.
