I saw the original Redemption Rye for $60. It's a 6 year, barrel proof Rye from MGP which I really enjoy. I may go back for a bottle to give it a try.

The store also had OGD114 for $22. I just bought one so I will hold off for now.

stopped by a store I pass now and then but have never been into before, just to see what they had. Saw the Booker's on the top shelf and walked over to it, noticing a "We still have Booker's!" sign.......right next to the $89.99 price tag.

I walked RTF out. That tells me all I need to know about your store.

Passed on AE rum cask finished rye. I may yet go back and get it. I checked the rye thread here and it looked mostly positive, but no mention of it for a couple years... any insight into why it seems to have dried up?

The AE rye is very sweet and sticky? to me, if that makes sense?  Almost sickeningly so.

I can barely get through a glass.  You probably need to really enjoy rum and I would try this at a bar first before investing $75 or more in a bottle.

The THH Rye is about as sweet as I can take. I think I'll pass on this one. Thanks for the insight!

The AE rye, which I have seen a bit more of on the shelf recently although it is still a bit spendy (always has been), is to me a pretty unique whiskey. And if you don't like sweet you aren't likely to enjoy it. It is almost a dessert whiskey. Standard MGP of undetermined age (as best I can remember) finished in Plantation rum barrels. Plantation often finishes rum in Cognac barrels (Ferrand, which makes Plantation Rum, is a cognac company after all) although I don't know if the barrels AE used were just used for rum or could have also been used for cognac. And Plantation freely admit to using "dosage" in their rum (basically added sugar, among other things) just as they do with the cognac. Still they are a good quality spirits company as long as you are aware of all that.

Of course AE was recently bought by Bacardi so maybe they use Bacardi rum barrels now and there was a delay in getting barrels to age the rum. No idea if that is the case or what affect it might have on the flavor of the rum.

last day of vacation, I had a few hours of store hunting and seeing what's out there. surprised on some of what I saw, particularly that some of it was in hole in the wall places.

ETL from $53 to $100

lots of RHF at $50-60

a Lot B 12 year VW......didnt even ask, saw the prices on other stuff was absurd, and left

JB Distiller's masterpiece px at $180

still lots of Booker's out there. a few cleared shelves, most stores had a few left

saw not a drop of OGD114 today. glad I loaded up before vacation last week

shelf full of dusty 1.75's HHBIB gold at $21

no OWA or W12 anywhere

Hey Whiskey Dick, what area did you see that RHF at? I've been looking all over for one and don't want to pay the flippers the $90+ they want for it. I tapped my last bottle 3 months ago and haven't been able to find a replacement.

THH was my gateway Rye... Haven't found anything since that's even close... The Ritt is about the second best I've found and it is still miles away from the THH!

I had to pass on "pappy 12" for 500 and WLW for 600 today.

same store did have ECBP for under 60 though, so it wasn't a total wasted trip.

Finishing of bourbons is becoming a new area to expand the bourbon experience.  You could say it's following the scotch model.  Brandy and cognac (eg SB. Com HHSS) have been some of the barrel finishes that have worked very well.  Barrel finishing is early in the learning curve for many distilleries, but offers great potential, IMO.

Passed on Angels Envy Finished Rye for 84.99, should I have jumped on it?

Only if you want a pretty sweet dessert whiskey. In my experience this is an occasional novelty bottle, not a daily drinker

First post, forgive my lack of abbreviations.  Hit a few stores today that I don't usually frequent.  Passed on Angel's Envy Cask Strength $175 and Wild Turkey Diamond Anniversary $135.  Did end up with a dusty Booker's "Dot's batch" for $55.

I can't think of much that comes close.  Maybe some barrel proof michters or willett (mgp) rye.

I sent some baby saz to nasa, trying to get them to dehydrate it back into barrel proof, thinking it would be cheaper than black market handy... no luck.

GTS 599.98

THH 349.99

Lot B 429.99

ORVW 10/107 379.99

Do people really pay these prices? I know they do because I've seen the secondary market on Facebook but these prices staring me in the face at a store makes me lose all hope I'll ever get any of these again. Glad I have at least 2 of each bunkered and the most I payed for any of it was 79.99 for GTS
