Great grab on the ETL Gee. I wish I'd have bought at least a couple more when I was out in your area a while back. <_<

Cheers! Joe

Come on back, Joe.  We're really nice folk out here.    :D

Baker's gets talked up about once a year. Some people go out and buy one and end up not impressed so the talk dies down.

I don't know what it is. I tend to forget about it due to all the reasons discussed in the past (it's price, the preponderance of KCSB's at ages in the 12yr range for less, etc.) but every time I open one, I go "wow.....".

I don't know if they select special barrels for this release, or if they pull from a particular rick house or part of a rick house, but it really is suited to my palate.

I've tried Bakers off and on for 30 years. It's pleasant, nothing wrong with it, but it has never really managed to peak my interest. Anyone here love it? I'm happy to listen if there's something I'm missing about it.

I know Gee. Thanks, it's much appreciated. If and/or when my wife and I ever get out that way again, we'll seriously consider the offer.

FWIW, my step brother and his wife live in Taunton. My step brother is a few years older than me, but our birthdays are only three days apart. When we were there in 2014, he gave me a bottle of Blanton's, and I gave him an ETL and a PS BT. I bought four ETL's while I was there. One was his, two I brought home, and he and I finished off one the week we were there. :P Needless to say, it was a good week. ;)

Cheers! Joe

Already bookmarked, thanks!

Make a mental note that deliveries are made to the stores on Tuesdays.  So check them out later that day and be sure and ask if they got in any backroom specials as well.  The stuff that doesn't get added to their website. ;)

You're right, and I had the same thoughts, but the juice speaks for itself, especially considering how much very unremarkable stuff is out there at premium or super-premium prices. Have you tried it? If so, what are your thoughts? If not, it's worth a go.

No doubt there is plenty of overpriced stuff around. No I haven't tried it. Maybe I'll look for a pour at a bar sometime soon. Cheers

this thread makes me so damn jealous with the WL12 and ETL. I know of one store who got a case of ETL around here in the last 6 months and the employees bought all of it before it ever made it out of the back. 12 I haven't seen in a few years. If anyone ever knows how to get some of either at a normal price in the SF bay area pm me!

It hit a few stores last month and I've befriended some store owners who hooked me up but this is first time I've seen it in almost 2 years. ETL come a couple times a year.

So I used my annual rationalization for buying my first bottle of Stagg Jr today. At 125 proof, it does have some burn. It's not an everyday pour but I can see myself opening it up on special occasions.

Try adding a little bit of water. It opens up quite a bit and it won't numb the roof of your mouth like it does neat, at least for me. That numbness must affect the taste buds as well. Respect the proof.

Thanks to Charlutz for searching the MoCo ABC website for the VOB.  I found it on the web at an ABC store the next town over from me in Manassas thus saving me from schlepping around the beltway. I left 2 on the shelf for the next guy. ;)  And I had a hankering for some OGD BIB:D  Off to the bunker for both of them.

Enjoy! Saved yourself enough on gas to maybe buy another half bottle. :) Please post your thoughts after you taste it.

I found out something interesting when I was at my neighborhood ABC getting the OGD today, when I asked my goto liquor guy if he had anything backroom he told me no but that someone challenged the 1 bottle, per customer, per day limitation for the backroom stuff.  They got the word from Richmond to sell whatever is in stock if asked. So one person can clear the shelf every time they get in a special shipment such as the RHF they got in earlier this week.  I got to make an effort to pay them a visit on Tuesdays from now on.

I think VOB is just over 4 years old these days, and not as good as it was when it was aged at least 6 years. And while the 6 year old stuff is good for the price point, it's not as good as many others that you can get for just a few more dollars per 750ml. I do have a bunch of 375ml 6 year age stated plastic bottles of VOB 86 proof that are great to bring along on road trips for a pour in the evening at the hotel. I noticed a few of these were still sitting on the shelf of a local LS the other day, so the 6 year aged stuff can still be found.

No your photography skills are right on. It's my unrequited love for all things Weller because it is so damned rare in my area. So don't mind me while I fantasize about a 12 yo Weller in a jug no less. :D

Ahhhh lol got it! I haven't tried this yet, but I'm pretty excited! I wouldn't have thought to ask about it if it wasn't for the forums. I bought the regular Weller Special Reserve. It was okay but from what it looks like this 12 year old it's supposed to be pretty good..

The jug of the 4 yo is the only variety of VOB the Va ABC carries. And on their website it says "Limited Time" so I don't know what to make of that which was why I was determined to land a bottle, pronto.

It's what's referred to on this forum as unobtainium.  Let us know what you think of it.  I'm all ears. :D
