I finished up work on a couple more sets of retirement paperwork today. 🙄 After finally getting home after having one set notarized, I’m now on the back patio with a pour of Weller SR. 😉

Biba! Joe

Get ready to be "busier" than you were when working full time.  Why?  Read on, MacDuff, and damned be he who cries, "HOLD!  ENOUGH!!"

When working, one automatically ignores/discounts/eschews possible courses of action that just can't be fit in a workday.  BUT! When retired, just about anything is doable/possible.  The best advice I ever got was  - "After retiring, don't schedule a trip to the Post Office and to the grocery store on the same day because it'll make you feel like you are doing too much."  SO! Plan your next week's activities, roughly anyway, early on so Fridays don't get too crammed with activities.

Also, after retiring, I spent about six-eight weeks just vegetating.  Wife had retired two years earlier, and I heard almost daily after MY retirement about my slugabed attitude.  I felt guilty initially BUT, upon reflection, figured out she (1) had ALSO spent a couple months after her retirement being a slug and (2) was a bit angry that I, as a retiree, was impinging upon HER ACTIONS AND ACTIVITIES AND HOUSE SPACE which she'd enjoyd for two years, don't you know.  IOW, I always wondered WHY she kept encouraging me to STAY at work instead of joining her in retirement.

That was a few years ago.  We have now worked out the kinks.  MON is do whatever we individually want to do, TUE is cleaning day (bedrooms one week, main floor next week, basement/outdoors third week), WED is grocery/shopping, THUR is another whatever, FRI is date night.  SAT-SUN is RESTING!!

She keeps the calendar.

MAN!! but this WT KSBW 101 is GOOD!!  Also Nats beating Marlins 15-0 in the 7th.

What a tasting! A full Weller ladder from WSR through WLW. Went low to high proof and did three blinds along the way.

Lot B vs PVW20 - 3/4 of us correctly identified the 20, but it was not as easy as I would have thought. The 20 was more complex in the nose and richer overall.

Old Rip vs PVW15 - we went 2/2 here. Both lovely pours, full bodied, bursting red fruits, caramel oak wavy finish. After the reveal I felt like I could now taste the oakier finish in the 15, but I was looking for it.

WLW ‘18 125pf vs WLW ‘20 - The ‘20 was noticeably darker/redder than the ‘18. Everyone assumed the 10 proof points would be obvious but we went 0-2 with one abstaining and my blind was accidentally revealed before I could guess. Made it easy to just enjoy the final pours of the night.

Other highlights. The PVW23 was my first taste and I have to admit it lived up to the hype. Absolutely fantastic. Lots of oak, but it doesn’t overpower and is so balanced. Best pour of the night by a long shot.

Weller Single Barrel was also new. Meh. It’s good, but certainly not anything obviously superior to the rest of the lineup.

Joes Weller blend came in at 100 proof and was a crowd favorite. The Warehouse WFP pick. was also wonderful.

Yes indeed the WT 101 is good.  Enjoying the new embossed turkey bottle.  I'm saving one of the turkey head label bottles, at least for a while. 🦃

Appropriately enjoying some Booker's at the kitchen table.  Good stuff.  I wonder why it doesn't seem to get much mention here on SB?

I've said many times over the years that I want to be Harry when I grow up. This post just reinforces that intent! How do I put this on speed dial?

At least around here, because it is never available.

There are several on my list to try, if I ever run across them.

Some of us (me) don't care for it too much given the price.  Others of us (me) are still pissed about the pricing shenanigans from several years back.  Some of us (me) have a hard time letting that kind of thing go.

I hear you.  I rarely buy Booker's now because of the price and availability issues.  But, thankfully, I have a pretty good supply from a few years ago when you could walk into any store and pick it up for ~$50.  Booker's was my first cask strength bourbon (mind was blown) and is still one of my favorites even though there are better values out there now.

Finished week 1 of 2 of Grandkids visiting. Yes, they bring their parents. Haven't posted in a couple weeks but here is a quick rundown...

My Old Fashioned still stinks compared to everyone else's

ER out of the freezer is a major fail.

It comes out a bit hot, but after about midway to room temp, it's quite pleasant - Moved to the fridge

I finally figured out FAE-01

You've seen Grand Funk Railroad, The Allman Brothers, Neil Young, America, The Moody Blues & The Stones. You jammed with Styx, Bob Seger, Blue Oyster Cult & even Ozzy.

Then along comes disco.......

You want to like it because the babes love to dance. You even stomach a few dances at a disco to hang with the babes.

Yes, you want to like it but you just can't.

MM FAE-01 is DISCO!!!

Guess who got the "go-ahead" to start drinking bourbon again today?

First Post-op Dram.jpg

Woo-Hoo!  Now walking gingerly w/o crutches or walker.  New PT is a cute 20-something blonde - that helps, too.   🥳

Let's see Frank. You are celebrating being able to drink bourbon, walking gingerly, and having therapy with a 20-something blonde and the best pour you could come up with is Centennial? 🤪🤪

Prost!!  Phil

Ha!  Is it the regular 10yr Centennial, or the 14yr Single Barrel Centennial OR Joe's 2018 Weller Blend???  Anyone (except fishinbowljoe, of course) want to take the challenge???  🤯

What I want to know is how the soy sauce compares to bitters.

I started off on the back patio with the last pour of a sample of KC 12 given to me by Galvin0791. After reading a post referencing my 2021 Weller Blend, I decided to have a healthy pour of said Blend. Nice evening, both good. C’mon retirement. 😁

I enjoyed a solid pour of KC12 tonight and now following up with another smaller pour.  Took the afternoon off to tend to my princess dog who had ACL surgery yesterday.  She is crashed out next to me while I drink bourbon, surf the internet, and watch the NBA finals.  I think she is pretty stoned.

She thought Frank was drinking Joe's Blend as well.

It doesn't - "Low Salt" soy is a capital offense against mankind in general and Asians (we're not "Orientals" anymore, remember  😂) in specific.  SWMBO makes me use that crap.  "Stop Asian Hate!"  🤬
