Out and about this morning and picked up a Smokewagon UCUF for $73.99,  which is a good price these days.    It's recently been mostly, and rarely, around at eighty.   UCUF is money in the bank as far as I'm concerned,  given how much I love the mashbill.    I appreciate that MGP has blended their 36 and 21 percent rye mashbills so well in Remus Repeal VI,  but for the 36 percent mashbill to be experienced at full throat,  UCUF always seems to kick it.

It was between the UCUF and another bottle of Frank August,  which I bought three weeks ago and turned out to be a gem of perfect proof and balance.    Hard to put that one back.

Grabs in the past week... (missing from the pic - a 4R SS SiB & an OF 375 gift pack)

Nothing spectacular, but solid just the same...

A friend with a good eye picked the WTRB NCF in Madrid Duty Free for me.

Also, I did not mean to get more RR SiB.n. Really, I did not.

But.

Uber dropped me off at FedEx Office (Kinkos) to print some flyers.  It was closed for lunch, state of the labor market & all.  And it was right across the street from Leukens in Tampa.

Across.  The.  Street.

Beckoning.  Like a siren.

So over I went.

Everywhere I go, the RR SiB's are now $60 - $70 for the regular version, and $80+ for store picks.  These were on the shelf for $52.  I figured I'd not see that price again, and I really do like 'em as daily drinkers.

Went to ring them up.  $60 per bottle!  Thankfully they honored the shelf price.  So I got 4.  Happy camper.

Does this qualify as MBroo-ish behavior?  Probably not.  I'll bet he get them for $20 at those supermarket sales.

My most recent purchase was a 4-Roses private selection of OESQ at barrel proof (118).    I didn't participate in this selection; but, the team made a fabulous choice!   The nose on this one is unbelievable!    It's somewhat sweeter, and more caramel forward than most 4-R's, but, still with a decent amount of the baking spices we all love about 4-R.   The Q recipes were not often seen over the last several years, so this is also a bit special for that reason.   It will remain sealed until my son's Christmas seasonal visit.    I c'nardly wait to open and share this one with him!     I had several small pours at my monger's establishment, and every sniff, every taste was absolutely wonderful.   I imagine Gary will agree; but, we'll see.

A friend who is presently in Japan is willing to get me a bottle of something.  If you don't mind my asking, what were the prices like on the above?  Or are there other things he should be looking for?  He'll be in Osaka.  PM is AOK if you are not looking to share publicly.  Recommendations from others welcome.  I need to tell my buddy what to look for.

I basically need to give him a list of "Get this, in order of priority, and here's the max price".  And yes, I'm searching the archives.

The prices were ok, it's just seems that there are more bottles available on the shelves as opposed to the US.

The Masters Keep was $219, the Father and Son was $60, the Blanton's Red was $90, the Four Roses was $45.

The only one we kind of held our noses on was the Blanton's  SFB, they were $225 ea, but try to find one on the shelf here.

Thanks for the info!  I'm with you on the SFTB.  Most I'd pay is $175 (which is the price at Gulmohars in St Maarten once they get it in about 2 weeks).

Gulmohar's isn't as price friendly as it once was.  Used to be above MSRP but well below secondary.  They now have a lot that is above secondary.  The Gold will be $155, secondary is $225, I'll get it in France for $105.  Regular Blanton's is $85, below secondary of $100 to $125.  And worth it for me....$25 over OH sticker of $60 is well worth avoiding lines, etc.  It makes a great Christmas gift and creates lots of joy due to the popularity, status, etc.  Once I tried the Gold & SFTB...my desire for the regular stuff declined.

Michters 10y rye was $200, my perception of secondary is $225 to $275.  A rye fan friend bought at that price, I'd not have.  Subjective.

WT12 was $225, not sure what secondary is.  I'll wait to get one from Japan for $50.

Last year's WTMK was $400, which struck me as high.

The prices of the above were as of last week via visiting friends.

They sometimes have Weller at decent prices, none in stock last week.

They are good about letting one know what they have via phone.  If they have enough of something worthwhile at a price I can live with then I'll go for a cheap, direct, last-minute flight from PR.  1 hour one way on a little turbo-prop.  Enjoy some restaurants with the Wifey, etc.  And mule some booze.

It's a trade off, I suppose.  Some of you probably have access to, for example, SFTB at less than $175 per bottle due to relationships, etc.  For me, it'd cost more time & energy than the price delta to build those relationships.  Still prefer to buy at $120 or so in France, but I could probably live with an easy pick-up at $175 as a fall back.  I like it that much.

ECBP C922 arrived at K&L San Fran yesterday so I ordered a bottle.  No picture since it hasn't been delivered yet.  But I was happy to get one (limit one) as I've heard that ECBP is back on track with this release.

I have enjoyed this one more than B522.  It is one the better releases over the past few years.

Ditto that.  If I see one for $70 or less, I get it.  I love the ECBP's.  The C922 is better than some of the private picks I've tried.

I bought the BT SP and WFP SP, the G12 was from a tasting event for the BT.  The rep (same guy, I swear I’m not stalking him) had the scotch sitting on the table and poured one sample.  He stated he was not allowed to have an open bottle in the car so, he handed it to me with a “Merry Christmas”.
