What Bourbon did you Purchase (Fall 2022)

I don't buy much outside of group picks these days, but yesterday I got three new bottles: (1) a Four Roses pick a friend muled back from Kentucky, (2) a Russell's Reserve SiB pick done by a store we use for our picks and it was very generously gifted to me at that, and (3) split this year's Four Roses LE SmB with two friends. Three great bourbons in one day (well I'm assuming for the Four Roses pick, personal verification has been done on the other two)!

 

First impressions of the Four Roses LE SmB are that the floral (or herbal maybe) character of the OESF makes itself known and it does taste a bit older than previous years (which it is). Those HW-55 OESF barrels included some home runs, so I'll be interested to see what else they make their way into. A quick SBS with the 2019 LE SmB had me favoring the 2019, but that's no knock on the 2022.

Early Xmas present to myself.  I couldn’t pass up another handle of MM for $41.99. Plus a two sided jigger to boot. And to top it off, it was dipped by my gal. Okay, I admit it. I did check the back of the bottle before I bought it. So sue me.

Got a nice surprise today. My typical route home from work does not take me past my local but there was an accident on that route so I took the usually slower route that goes past the local.

I stopped in to see if my friend (the owner) was there because the last two times I stopped in he wasn't there. He was! And he something set aside for me.

As I was shopping I noticed a full supply of McKenna which is the first time I've seen that much on a shelf in 3-4 years. So, I snagged three.

Then I finally caved and bought a Calumet 16. Won't buy it from TW but will buy it from my friend.

Then the surprise! He had a RR13 for me. I missed out the first time it came out so I'm excited to have this. Preparing to crack it as we speak.

Local grocery chain had its' big 30% off sale.

I picked up: Rittenhouse, FRYL, FRSmB, OF 100, and EW B.I.B.

I had to go to two separate stores.  The first one carries Rittenhouse, but sold out of FRSmB.  The second had plenty of FRSmB, but doesn't stock Rittenhouse.  All stocked up now.

I stopped in a local chain liquor store last night.  I knew they had KC9 on sale so I thought I would pick up a bottle, check out their selection, and enter my name in their monthly limited release lottery.  My one entry in 10,000 means I still have a chance!

 

While perusing the bourbon selection, I heard the sales clerk chat up a customer and ask him if he liked "local" bourbons.  He then showed him a bottle of a 3+ year old Indiana bourbon for $19.99.  The guy put the bottle he had in his hand back on the shelf and bought the local bourbon.  I have sampled it before but never bought a bottle.  It is ok.  

 

I get to the counter and the same sales clerk asks "So, you like Knob Creek?"  I said yeah and $27.99 is a good price so I thought I would stop in and buy a bottle.  He said "Well, you might want to try bourbon xxx which is really good and less expensive."  I just laughed and said "Yeah, I am fine with paying a little more for a 9 year old 100 proof bourbon that I enjoy."  I told him I understood why he was pushing bourbon xxx and asked him how many bottles they were moving.  He laughed and said a "fair number."  I will say this 1) this young man was doing his job so I appreciated that and 2) bourbon xxx is actually not too bad for the price and is much better than some of the TW bottles I have tried for double and triple the price.  Not that I will be running out to buy any of these bottles.
