I hear you Jim. Fortunately I've got 1 and a half bottles of KBS 1792 and a quarter of a bottle of VOB to tie me over for a while. I think I'll be hunting Barton stock next time I'm in the US...

Finally got myself a bottle of knob creek and I dont see it lasting too long.

The regular on the single barrel?

Both are very high on my list to buy, maybe after my next pay goes in.

Dan Murphy's had both KC on the shelves around Christmas, but when I went in, they were sold out of the SB. Apparently they did have one left in the store....but they could not locate it!

Also great tip on the Kemps Creek store! Went for a drive with the girlfriend. Driving along the road, there was a moment of apprehension before seeing the store. But on seeing it covered in Bourbon advertising it lightened the mood. Walking in...wow. I would never have thought a place like that would be out in the middle of nowhere. Great selection. Prices with a bit more of a mark up than I would have liked on some stuff, but a lot of it reasonablish. Defiantly will be going back.

Not to divert the topic too much, but I'm going to be in Canberra for a couple weeks, and likely Sydney for a weekend toward the end of February. What bourbon is widely available... wondering what I should stash in my suitcase for the trip!

Not as much as the USA thats for sure, but enough for it to be a pain list! What would you say are your top 5 bourbons you wouldnt like to go without for a few weeks and we can tell you if theyre here and if the proof/price point is consistent.

I have a question for the fellow Australian members, has anyone been to Costco and what is their bourbon selection like?

Costco is something I have been wanting to check out for a while now. I do believe at one stage they were selling a premium Jim Beam back with Basil, Bakers and Bookers. But I am unsure of the cost or if its still there.

Also, for Sydney members, check out the Oak Barrel website. Buffalo Trace tasting evening going on in Feb. Harlen Wheatley will also be there.

Also! I hope everyone is having a great Australia Day!!

Costco don't have much. They carry that Kirkland brand which I believe is a younger KC. Other than that, it's Beam and Wild Turkey. I think price is ok but don't think it's too much different to Dans. I can check next time I visit.

a Dickel 12, 90 proof, my special bottle at the moment. It has been open since xmas. I didn't really like it much when I first opened it. I have given it lots of chances and rests over the last 4 weeks. This pour, I had a good few sniffs and sips before adding some coke. It is much more complex than many bourbons I usually drink. It has a deep and almost earthy smell, it has grown on me. The colour is dark but not too dark. The taste is strong and lots of hints to it's complete sensation. A tan leather feel, soft but ready for more, it expands and disappears pleasantly. Some burn but that is my palate developing I believe. After taste is sweet without over powering. After this session, it only has one pour left. I believe I will get another one now. I have more to learn about it it and would like to share this one when exploring bourbon with a mate.

7+/10 it's growing on me.

Good evening all.

Its Friday night, time to relax.

Started with a small pour of Makers Mark, and now moving on to some Elmer T Lee.

After a long hot day celebrating Chinese New Year, I am sitting down with W.L Weller Special Reserve.

Long hard day here for me too, but that was at work. I started on a few Nelson County's with coke to wash the dusty down. A quick Bulleit and coke but was really chasing the complex flavour of the Dickel 12 of last night. Ducked up the street to explore expecting to come home with another D12 but decided on a RR10. I've sniffed, tried neat, on the rocks and also enjoying on a Friday night with coke. Too early to review or give tasting notes. This bottle will be a journey and it has just began. The dust is out of my throat a least.

Went to Costco yesterday.

The have their inhouse Kirkland brand at $60

They also had the three pack of Bookers, Basil, Bakers for $199

There was also MM and MM46 as well as JB White and JB Black(i think) but the prices were pretty much the same as what you pay at Dan's.

Hey vietish have you tried the kirkland? Do you know if its the same one that has been discussed around here as potentially being young knob creek?

$60 seems steep, 1litre?

I have not tried it and I am not 100% sure that it is the same one, but I would assume so.

The price tag made me hesitate. There is plenty of other bottles out there that I could get for that price or cheaper that are higher on my list of things to try.

Just sharing some info. Got an email from A guy Ive dealt with before who is selling Buffalo Trace for 55 out of Adelaide for members of the club. This stuff is 700ml 90 proof (45%) only 5 bucks more than Dans for 80 proof. Its a good deal for me, but I fear shipping charges might make it hard for you other guys. www.theoddwhiskycoy.com.au Don't know what else he has, but I have bought 4RsmlB off him before. If youd like shoot Grayham an email through the site, and become a member if interested. All the best!
