Vietish
Thanks for the link. I might have to get together with some mates and do a bit of a group buy .One independent store owner I spoke to recently (this store as the largest bourbon range I have seen anywhere in Sydney) said something about four roses going to be launched widely in Australia in the near future, has any one else heard the same? camduncan
I think the place I visit in Sydney when I stay at my brother-in-laws is called The Oak Room or The Oak Barrel... They had a reasonable selection of hard to find stuff.
Vietish
Yeah its the Oak Barrel on Elizabeth St. They also hold a lot of different tastings and events throughout the year.

Sydney BJW
What store would this be? I am very very very very interested. Firstly I have not been to ever liquor store in Sydney . For example I have not been to the Oak Barrel or the specialist whisky store in Double Bay. The biggest selection of bourbon I have seen in my time in Sydney (I travel around a lot of Sydney in my job) is at Kemps Creek Liquormaster which is attached to a petrol station on Elizabeth Drive, Kemps Creek. The owner(always forgot his name but he know his stuff and will suggest different bourbons based on your likes and dislikes) loves bourbon and as very large range including some hard to find bourbons many kept in in the locked display cabinet (usually well above my price range). It has always been worth the trip to the store every time I have been.. I hope the above information helps other Sydney bourbon lovers. Vietish
Its actually a great help as I dont live too far from there and its not something I though to ever check out. If you are ever near the city, try checking out Liquor on Oxford. John and Bill both really helpful and have a pretty interesting selection. I am going to go there again next week and will try and report whats in stock at the moment.
Guest
Very excited about FR coming to australia, I hope they dont take the piss too much with the prices, hopefully the small batch is less than $50 and the single not more than $70. Wonder if they will bring the yellow label out? Hard to imagine it fitting in, what pricepoint would you have it at? You surely couldnt have it much more than JB white. Vietish
I totally agree with the question of yellow label. You would think it would be worth their while just aiming for the mid range to start off with. Then worry bout the yellow later.
Sydney BJW
Vietish, I also don't live too far from Kemps Creek, I think you will like the store ( I have never left empty handed).Looking at the on line stores that offer four roses the yellow label seems to be about $70 and the small batch around $80. If it ends up in the bigger chains these prices may reduce a bit, I would think maybe $60 for the small batch. I would love the single barrel to come to Australia. As Kirin own the brand an they realise that more bourbon is being drunk n Australia I think it is good chance. I just hope they don't reduce the proof for our market. Sydney BJW
At this stage I believe it is just a rumourIt is a rumour at this sage. A person I know that has in the past had a very, very good strike rate about future products coming to this country told me he thinks Four Roses could come some time this year and Kirin/Lion were seriously looking a brining it to the Australian market. I was just asking if any one else had heard the same

Guest
I am having one of those nights when my palate is screwed up. Nothing is tasting right. I hate these types of nights! On those nights it is helpfull to review what you have eaten the last day or two. If you have had an uncharacteristic increase in the amount of spicy or rich food this can sometimes dull the palates sensitivity. I find Thai food reduces my enjoyment of straight spirits. Guest
What is a quince! Bought a couple "dusty" WTRBs today, the previous '99' batch number to be exact, these bottles have apparently been on the shelve for over 5 years, also got a dusty 1litre JB bonded in box, old early 2000s stock. Same store had a wooden lockable display for sale which contained a '97' batch RB in a tube, and old label 86.8 proof and a boxed 101 8yr. I asked the price thinking they would give me a package deal as I was already clearing a couple hundred bucks of old stock that had obviously been on their shelves for a long time, nup $280 they wanted for the boxset! I couldnt make them see the bullshit in their ways, I even offered $200 which is about $20 more than the total of the bottles are worth at CURRENT prices and they didnt want a bar of it, greedy buggers. Not to mention that I offered to leave them the wooden display becauase I think its pretty lame. Still, I really want to try that old RB!

booma
Hi gang,I keep buying different bourbons at the moment. Nothing super special. Currently giving cougar as run as my opener with coke to wash the dust off my throat. It is a simple flavour that offers something on the front of the palate but delivers very at the back off the palate. Dark in colour but I'm learning that means very little. A hint of rye but minimal. I'm starting to judge bourbons by asking myself, "Do I feel like another one of that or move on?" The dust is washed down and I'm ready to move on. Next up a bulleit with coke, nice smell, lighter in colour and fuller flavour. Gentle on the front palate and smooth into the back palate with the addition of some mouth feel. It certainly has 10 bucks more depth. More enjoying than thirst quenching. I love the bottle too. Nice look and easy to hold, that blue print on the cap catches my eye every time. a solid bourbon. cheers

HighInTheMtns
First I've heard of it, but that doesn't suprise me. Four Roses and Barton are the last (major) distilleries not to have a prescence here. I figure they'd be turning up at some point.... The question with Four Roses though, is is it coming out of the US by a recognised distributor, or is some small start up bringing it in via the UK...Considering recent developments, I wouldn't count on Barton.
