What bourbon did you pass on 2023

Saw this on the shelf at the local Meijer today.  I opted for a bottle of MMCS on sale for $34.99 and two bottles of New Riff on clearance at $30.11 each.  Also, passed on HH7 BIB @ $43.99.  Just wasn't feeling it today.

I would pass too.  Overall I say the concept is quite silly.  From what I've read, back in colonial times and after, people drank very young spirits, sometimes right off the still.  To deal with that, they made: punch, toddys, juleps, ...

Family Favorite huh?

I guess we know what the Meijers are drinking at their get togethers.

It was still there today. A week later. Maybe it will end up on the clearance shelves. 😀

It sells way below MSRP on secondary. That's some Bud Lite level stuff there.

Too soon?

Also, passed on OE7 Yr Rye Barrel Strength for $58.99. It was probably worth it but I wasn't feeling it.

Tried it at the distillery and liked it quite a bit. That price is the lowest I've seen it. I imagine I'd buy one or two. But you and have that conversation a lot.....

It was a nice break. And absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Not you, I mean the bourbon.

Been rolling in a bath tub with my bottles like Scrooge McDuck. Reunited and felt so gooood.....

Passed on the Claw this past week.  My first time seeing this legendary gem in person.  Bought some beer instead 🍺.

Haha. This reminds me of the first time I saw the Claw sitting on a shelf.  I did a double take lol.

Yeah, they posted some stuff on IG about it, celebrating their 135th anniversary.  As long as they don't change what's INSIDE the bottle...

I wouldn’t mind a 20p proof bump, if fact I would celebrate it!!

Well darn.

No!  I didn't even know there was a rye.

I guess I have something to look for and pass on again.

Passed on an AE Store Pick 110 proof.  I have never had the Cask Strength so I was curious.  However, the price was $84.99.  I might have pulled the trigger at $69.99 which is the price for MM46 CS PS.

I'm assuming that they don't let you try their picks first?

No. It was actually a store selection for a grocery chain.

I wonder what would happen if I popped it open for a try? I see kids eating grapes, bananas, and cookies in the store. 😀

Really you're doing a service.  Go to the paper products aisle, grab a pack of plastic cups, open them, put them next to the bottle on the shelf. Then write "customer sample bottle" in sharpie on the bottle after you open it.  Then it's really not just for you to try. You are helping them help their customers buy it.

PSA above!  This may belong double-posted in the pro tip folder also.🫡

The better liquor stores in Indiana do let customers try store picks and the regular versions.  I suspect grocery stores are not allowed, since I've never seen it.

Last night I passed on some Larceny BP C921(would have bought it if it was B523), Booker's Apprentice Batch(not heard great things about that batch), ECPB @ $90, MM BEP @ $125, I did buy some Tequila and beer from another store that I went to with the intent to buy those items. I have a vacation to Florida in 2 weeks and already have a store picked out to stop at and hopefully pick up some bottles that aren't available to us in Missouri.

I needed to grab some beer for later. Just for convenience, I stopped at a liquor store across the street from the bowling alley after practice this morning. New owners(?), store rearranged, even more tater now. Took a look, but passed on everything.  Sad 💩. 🤬

MM-$34.99

BT-$39.99

Weller SR-$79.99

ER-$89.99

Blanton’s-$199.99
