What Bourbon Did You Purchase Today? Spring 2009

Just picked myself up a bottle of BT(Binny's single barrel) and a bottle of Weller Antique. I am pretty excited because the Weller will be my first wheater.

Picked up another WTRR101 for the cupboard. Halfway through my first bottle and the nervous tic set in.

I was gifted a nice bottle of Blanton's - my first bottle of this bourbon. I found it a very nice smooth and tasty elixir....a nice addition to the collection.

Today I bought a bottle of Wild Turkey 101. It wasn't the plan but the local liquor store was closing out some gift sets so I picked up the bottle along with 2 glasses for $1.00 more than the bottle alone. And it has been some time since I had WT in my stock so I figured why not.

Those are nice glasses. I have six that I found on "clearance" at a place where I think they may have removed the glasses from the packages to sell them separately - can't be sure and I didn't ask, but they are the same as those packaged with the 101.

I have the Rare Breed wooden box with two glasses, but the glasses that came with the 101 seem to be thicker/heavier.

I had a very strange experience this weekend, bourbon kept falling into my shopping cart, despite having stocked up over the sampler weekend.

BT Kahn's select single barrell which I'm not enjoying as much as the last bottle I got.

A bottle of Kahn's select RHF almost fell into my cart too, but I told it my wife would kill me if I got any more, even though it was about $10 cheaper than I see it for around here. So it jumped back on the shelf.

The place that had the EWSB also had a bunch of crazy top shelf stuff that I had never seen in a store before, including what looked like contemporary Hirsch.

Yeah, I hear you. Dad is coming back from FLA and the place right up the street from him has Bulleit for $19/ea. Thats $7/ea cheaper than they are here.

Funny how that happens...I wandered into Steve's Liquor in Madison today and a '99 EWSB barrel-selected by Steve's hopped into my hands. It was on sale for $21.99 a bottle. Seemed a good deal...

I was lucky enough to find a PVW 20 today. I have stocked up on the 15s and the 23s are just out of my price range. The 20 has been very elusive this spring. This was his only bottle.

Found a bottle of Four Roses 120th Anniversary and decided to grab a lone bottle of Old Fitgerald 1849 for giggles as well. Doing well on Pappy but still can't find any 15yr to try. If anyone knows of a bottle around Lexington I sure would appreciate it.

Picked up a very dusty fifth of Kentucky Tavern BIB. Distilled at DSP-KY-240 (Taylor and Williams) and bottled at DSP-KY-24 (Glenmore). The bottle's got metric and customary measures on it, so I guess it's from the 1980 range. I'm pretty pumped to try it!

Yesterday, while on a job in Channelview, I found a 375ml of I.W. Harper Gold Medal 99 proof with a fake tax strip and no government warning. Tried it last night, I wouldn't call it stellar, but it's pretty tasty.

Later, on my way home from work, I decided to pick up a couple more PVW15's for the bunker.

BTAC WLW 2007 and 2008, ORVW90, the little gimmicky 350 of OF100 (hey, only $9); and a bottle of some bizarre Carstairs something for under 10 bucks dated from 83. No clue if it's any good, I highly doubt that it is at all. (I bet on awful) but hey, I'd never seen it around and for that price if it's worse then vodka I won't care.

I picked up a bottle of Ten High, the Kentucky Straight Sour Mash Bourbon Whiskey, not the blend. This is the cheapest bottle I ever bought, only one penny per millilitre before tax! Perhaps I'll find out why a little later...

Yesterday while trolling for bourbon, I did find 2 WTRR 101 and an ETL was the dipped gold wax seal. Those did manage to find a new home.
