Final tally from my trip to Texas:

2 OWA's

CEHTSB

Garrison Brothers (a gift from a friend in Houston)

Stagg, Jr.

Michter's US*1 Bourbon

Yellow Rose Double-Barrel (the wife's pick)

The first thing I did when I got home was make my first batch of SB Blend. I let it mingle for about 10 days before tasting and it really is excellent! Not sure if I would say it "tastes just like Pappy", but as good as it is, I don't really care!

Just 2 weeks until I leave for Louisville. I could go broke on bourbon this summer!!

It's the SB and, in the context of until the past couple of months we've never seen it cross the 30 threshold, it is high. Yes, we're now paying for having been spoiled all these years (and I think it's only just begun)!

By SB, which do you mean? :) I always differentiate with SiB and SmB.

I would buy the hell out of SiB at $33. It's $44 for us here in the PNW now. SmB has been $33 for some time now.

Single Barrel is $32 at my local Sam's Club and has been at that price for more than a year. Lucky for us!

I'll put the confusion to rest :) I was referring to the Single Barrel. From reading the forums I thought SB = Single Barrel and SmB = Small Batch - I'll adjust my abbreviations in the future though. Sorry guys

Two bottles of BIB Mellow Corn for $12.99 each. Having never tried this, I still can't tell you why I bought 2 bottles of it! I guess I thought I was going to like it!

I'm glad I bought 2 'cause I LOVE IT!

Some folks say MC is a drink you don't have to think about. This stuff goes through some serious transformations over the course of an hour.

From moonshine to buttery corn to caramel to bananas and then back around again.

Huge legs! Very little alcohol burn for 100 proof. I hope this stuff stays under the radar!

I really need to try MC. I have only ever seen it at one store in the area and haven't been there in a while.

I just found a bottle of Basil Hayden's on sale for $31 (normal price was $42). I REALLY like OGD 114, and it's my "go to" cheap bourbon. Love the heavy rye notes. So I'm hoping this bottle won't disappoint. I wish they bottled it at a little higher proof, so we'll see how drinking it at 80 goes.

Also, I bought a bottle of ER10. I've been trying to buy a bottle of this every month to build up my stock as its my favorite bourbon that is readily available, but my worry is that next year at this time it won't be so available. Wish I had done the same with Weller 12. You live, you learn I guess.

If it seems too light, try adding some OGD114 to it. I was very happy with the results of that vatting.

Finally grabbed a OWA in the mid 20 where it should be. I wasn't looking for it stopped in for a water after a mountain bike outing and they had recently gotten in a store pick. I was curious about a OWA store pick so I asked the owner for tasting notes, how many samples did they choose from and did they know the age of theirs as it used to be 7 yrs. I was informed that it in fact used to be 10 yrs and this was in fact a 10 yr old whisky. They didn't pick from samples as it was chosen for them and what I had in hand was in reality "Pappy 10 yr old". Alrighty then, just smiled and made my way to the exit LOL!! Anyway, I have always been curious about the SB blend so now I'll have a chance to try it.

Truly well informed help there. Guess I need to get me some mid 20's Pappy....

When the store I work at picked a OWA barrel, we got 4 samples. I closely examined the barrel when it was delivered and as far as I can tell there are no markings that will give me the exact age (when it was barreled, I know when it was bottled). Amazes me when stores don't actually pick their own barrel. We passed on getting a barrel of Crown Royal because they were not doing samples, they would pick the barrel sent. Every barrel of the 7 we have on hand were picked from samples. Otherwise, how do you know if you're getting a good barrel or not?

Found quite a few EH Taylor barrel proofs in the 129 and 127.2 variety. Picked up a 129er since you guys told me it was better.

Picked up a Blantons. Have been told by store manager, who is not usually a BSer, that it's now going on allocation. Take that for what it's worth. I've heard people saying how hard it is to find in some parts of the country. I've never had an issue here, but will admit the shelves aren't well-stocked.

Blanton's has always been pretty easy to find in my area. The WalMart I shop even keeps it stocked at a really good price... Until this past weekend. None in stock and no spot on the shelf reserved for it anymore. The local liquor stores are all out of it too. Suddenly it's become a hard to find item! Hmmmmm....

But to keep my post on topic... My WalMart keeps Buffalo Trace stocked at $18 a 750ml and I pick up a bottle every other week just to keep it in stock at my house!

Let the Blantons hoarding begin. cool.gif

Back on topic: I picked up another bottle of Stagg Jr. Batch 4 before it goes away. I'm really impressed with this stuff.

Wouldn't called Blanton's allocated. While it was in short supply here in GA recently, distributor just got it back in. Store I work at was delivered 5 cases (60 bottles) last week.

Sure wasn't like the ETL where we only got 12....

Hey, I don't know if it's allocated or not, just repeating what I was told by someone who buys the stuff in bulk. I don't think he was saying it as an enticement to get me to buy some, as I'm a quasi-regular and buy my fair share of stuff there. He also stated it as sort of a "from now on . . ." type proposition. If your distibutor got a bunch, more power to you. I don't want it to be allocated. I don't want anything to be allocated.

My lady friend works for a liquor distributor and they haven't had any Blanton's in stock for a couple of weeks. It is on order, but they can't keep it in stock.
