Picked up 375s of Makers Cask Strength and 46. Going to be a gift. Grabbed private selections of a 9 yr Old Scout and an 8 yr OKI for myself.

Picked up the latest EHTBP. Gonna find a Stagg Jr Batch 4 and do a SBS tasting. Heard 4 was a good as 3 which was pretty darn tasty.

I took the wife shopping today so as "repayment" she allowed me to stop in a few stores in the area since we were shopping in an area outside of our normal area. I would have bought if I had seen anything that I couldn't find at my normal shop or ran across a great deal. Unfortunately, I didn't. Although, I did see an empty shelf where Blanton's for $49.99 had been. I did end up purchasing an EWSB 2006. Normally, I don't post "standard' purchases but this was my first EWSB 2006. I have never been disappointed by this offering. I have ran across a few store selects that were superior and I have favorite years but, in the end, I always end enjoy this bourbon, even at 86.6 proof.

I wish but no, just 2 375s one cask strength and one regular 46. They're a gift for one of my wives coworkers who loves bourbon mainly regular Makers, but has been bugging my wife to come over and try some new stuff. Figured we'd start her off in her comfort zone.

I was in KY today, was thinking about driving to 4 roses and Makers gift shops but wanted to get home. Wound up sitting 40 miles from the TN border on 75 for 2 hours because of a wreck, I should have gone to the gift shops. Would have been the same amount of time.

Good thinking on the gifts! As for your traffic problem, always trust your first instinct when it comes to bourbon ha!

was surprised to see the local thrifty acres had MMCS on the shelf, so I had to pick up a bottle.

Lucked into a Big Red Liquors OBSV from last year's pick. One of those great ME bottles. Tasty!

I've been enjoying bourbon for the past quarter century but for some reason I've never tried any 4 Roses offerings... Crazy huh?! So picked up my introductory bottle today while grocery shopping at WalMart. The price had been lowered from $28 to $26 on 4RSmB 750ml so I figured it was time I gave this stuff a try!

I would advise you to not judge the 4R line by the small batch. It is my lease favorite of the 4R line. The private selections are the best, followed by the single barrel (and those two are in that order only because I like the higher proof offerings. The single barrel 100 proof is awesome) then the yellow label, then finally the regular small batch. They say the Limited Edition small batch versions are good, but I dislike the regular SmB.

I think the 4R small batch is excellent, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Generally agree, but I also prefer the SB. Just two very different pours IMO. The bottom line here to any 'new' customer is that one should try them all in an effort to find what works best for them.

I am a novice but I found them to be very similar in SbS sessions and could not decide which I prefer, so when they were both gone I obv had to buy a bottle of each to replace them.

It's a tough job Foz, but you're the right man for it! Seriously, it's a great problem that you have love for both as both are unique as well as remarkable bourbons.

As you continue to develop your palate (at warp speed I might add), I do believe you'll very quickly be able to note the familial similarities, as well as the significant differences in their profiles.

At this point in your journey I'd recommend you take a jigger of each SBS (neat). My money is on you picking them correctly 8 out of 10 times.

I'm a huge fan of both Small Batch and Single Barrel (standard edition) for different reasons. What I like about Small Batch is the consistency (the reason for batching, after all). When I find a good barrel of the Single, it's the hands down superior pour for me. Due to the variation though, I end up with some that are not at that same level. For this reason, I need to follow your lead and stock up when I find that honey barrel. That means of course that I need to try them right away to find out. Haven't done that in the past.....

Saw my first bottle of ETL in a couple of years while visiting upstate New York and picked it up for $35. That's about $10 more than I paid for it last but less than it sells for elsewhere so I pulled the trigger.

The new Abraham Bowman High Rye has found its way to my hands. I've passed on all of the previous releases, but have high hopes for this one.
