What Bourbon did you purchase today? / Summer 2015

I picked up a Henry McKenna 10 Year SB BiB and a Smooth Ambler 7 Year Straight Bourbon. It was my first McKenna, but I love the SAOS Straight Bourbon. And my local store offers coupons of $6 off a $60 (or more) total purchase, so that's always a good thing!

Stopped by the Kroger W&S on Sat planning to try a Henry McKenna BiB as well, when low and behold, a half dozen bottles of OWA 107 were found hiding on the shelf below. I opted to not be greedy and grabbed only 2 bottles, along with an Old Forester 1870 on sale. Ended up back in the area Sun and greed got the better of me - grabbed the last two bottles.

So now I guess I've bunkered - or actually mini-bunkered or micro-bunkered - my first bourbon...

Down in NC for vacation and picked up a Virgin 101. My first time having it.

Cue up the Madonna. Nothing like a Virgin for the very first time.

I picked up Stagg Jr. batch #4 (132.2) for $50. Now I have a complete set of batches 1-4 in the bunker, and about half of a bottle of batch #1 left to enjoy. At this pace, Buffalo Trace will release 8 batches by the time I finish one bottle. That is good news since I won't run out but not so great for my limited bunker space and my wallet. If ECBP was easier to come by, I'd have a similar problem no doubt.

I was out and about yesterday doing some shopping with my wife. We stopped at one store to pick up a bottle of bourbon as a special occasion gift for a friend of my wife. He likes Maker's, but is interested in trying other things. After browsing the selection, I/we decided on getting him a bottle of ER10. At the checkout, I saw a bottle of Stag Jr Batch #4 on the shelf behind the counter. Well, I couldn't resist. I grabbed it for myself. I have to see if it's as good as the bottles from Batch #3 that I had.

Moving on to get some more shopping done, we stopped at Sam's Club. As we passed the liquor section, I saw the FRSB sitting there on the shelf, and I thought that might make an even better gift for my wife's friend, and mentioned that to my wife. My wife asked "What about the ER10? Will you drink it?" I just smiled and told her "Of course." :grin:

If that ain't enough, If all goes accordingly tonight, I'll be picking up a bottle of Stagg Jr Batch #3. What can I say? :cool:

Nice price. I would be buying by the case at that price. It just went up from 27 to 30 here a month or two back and OGD114 went from 23 to 28 last month.

FWIW, last night, I did take delivery of that Stagg Jr Batch #3 I mentioned yesterday. :grin: I so want to open the Batch #3 and #4 and do a side by side, but I'm going to have to wait a bit. I'm really trying hard to stay within the limits I've imposed on myself regarding how many bottles I have open. Time will tell…….

Indeed they are. Time to stash a few more away before the price hikes reach us. (One of the few occasions relative to bourbon in which it's good to be here where we are the last to get everything new.)

Same chain store had it for $39.99 when I bought one a couple months ago. Had to get one for $7 less so I can have a back up bottle. Had a bottle of Rare Breed for $37.99 which I put down too. I will have to go back for that one.

I stopped by my local store to get a bottle of beer (Founder's Redankulous) and picked up the bottle of SAOS SB 10 yr bourbon I had been eyeing for weeks. I placed it in my bunker with the 8 and 9 yr bottles I already have, next to 3 bottles of the regular SAOS bourbon, 2 bottles of regular SAOS rye, and 2 bottles of the SB rye 8 yr. That's when I realized I probably don't need any more SAOS products for a while. :grin: (But the rye will be gone soon! :70358-devil:)

I was bored at lunch, so might as well go check out Binny's. Picked up a store select OBSO. Look forward to giving this a try tonight, first dabble outside of SmB 4R for me. I've never had great insight into which recipe for a jumping off point. The Fruit and high rye, sound like an intriguing combination for my palate. Here's to hoping I made a good choice.
